I'm in pursuit of a wide angle as well. There are tons of options. What do you shoot with and what's the max you're willing to spend on one?
Thanks for the welcome. I have a D90. I'd really like to stay under $500 since it's only a hobby at this point. I thought about trying this one out. It's not superwide but seems like it would fit my bill of close up shots in low light. Plus it's relatively inexpensive. http://www.adorama.com/NK3518U.html
You could probably find a used one for $170 or so.
The 35mm 1.8 is great. Anyone that has used it can attest to that. I had one with my d5100 and enjoyed it. Ended up selling it because I primarily shot wildlife with my 55-300, but I did get nice shots out of it when I used it.

By no means should you base your purchase off what I said. Keep searching around for more reviews. It's a pretty popular lens for DX users; should be tons of opinions on it all over the Internet.
So Canon vs. Nikon Lens which one better? As for the price I see Canon lens are cheaper. So lets say entry kit from Nikon is cheaper but if you plan to pick up another lens it will adds up, and seem more pricier than Canon which I still think it's expensive but still more resonable price.
Yeah there was a lot of variation in the beginning, I'm not sure about now though. You could always use AF fine tune if it needs adjusting. Their new 35mm 1.4 is supposed to be a lot better.
Id personally say Nikkor Lens take the cake, but that's my opinion. One of the 2 reasons I've gone the path of Nikon is camera body's (feel and button lay out) and the color they produce. Lens vary, and there are many companies that make good entry level lens (tamron for one) and companies that make amazing entry level - full frame professional lens (like Sigma).
And for a low cost, good quality wide angle, the sigma 10-20mm is a great buy. Think it's around $300. And really, I found it to produce amazing images in low light. The only issue's that I had was the edges of photos would be kinda soft compared to the center of the photo. Really you could only tell in large viewing of images, but other than that, great lens. I regret selling it. Makes for awesome rolling shots, when you don't have 3 lanes of a road to use!

I'd be all over that newer 35mm 1.4 if it were half the price. Hahah.
Stenger, that's a pretty cool shot.
Did a bit of car photography myself, today. I dont think they turned out too bad for my first time shooting cars.

Jon, I haven't used one, but it looks like DxOMark ranked them pretty high. Granted, they state that it's best at f2, where the others are at f1.4.

Took this with the 5D2 and the new 40mm pancake lens. And I still really want to see more Guy Fawkes photos from you guys...
Nice that's like the Phase One of video lol.
Yeah I've been watching reviews on Youtube all morning. Optically it seems to be awesome. The only part I hesitate about is it being full manual. I'm not a stranger to it since I shoot film, but I want the 35 for street photos and sometimes you have to be quick.
That's a characteristic of most UWA lenses. I haven't noticed it much on my 24mm, but I usually shoot wide open anyway. If I don't get it, I'm also looking at the Nikon 35-70mm. Old school push/pull metal barrel goodness.
Today would be a good day to take a Guy Fawkes shot. It's all gloomy and whatnot.

I had the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 and I loved it. Super sharp at 2.8 in the center, though the edges got pretty soft. Good through the mid range and then soft again at f/11 and beyond. I've heard nothing but good things about the 35mm 1.4 and you Nikon guys get the auto-focus confirm chip.
