Nice pics! I'll be spending some time in here now that I found it.

I'd like to get a nice wide angle lens for my Nikon at an affordable price. Any suggestions?

I was so hyped when I saw that. And then I started to read reviews on it.. It seems as if a lot of people have problems with the AF front focusing. If you were to just use MF, it might make a nice cinematography lens, though.

Welcome, man.
I'm in pursuit of a wide angle as well. There are tons of options. What do you shoot with and what's the max you're willing to spend on one?

Thanks for the welcome. I have a D90. I'd really like to stay under $500 since it's only a hobby at this point. I thought about trying this one out. It's not superwide but seems like it would fit my bill of close up shots in low light. Plus it's relatively inexpensive. http://www.adorama.com/NK3518U.html

The 35mm 1.8 is great. Anyone that has used it can attest to that. I had one with my d5100 and enjoyed it. Ended up selling it because I primarily shot wildlife with my 55-300, but I did get nice shots out of it when I used it.
You could probably find a used one for $170 or so.

Dammit Ethan! You're not helping! I was hoping you'd say it sucks, don't waste your money so I'd forget about it and get over it. Now I just want it more!

Hahah. Sorry, man. Wish I could tell you I hated it?
By no means should you base your purchase off what I said. Keep searching around for more reviews. It's a pretty popular lens for DX users; should be tons of opinions on it all over the Internet.

So Canon vs. Nikon Lens which one better? As for the price I see Canon lens are cheaper. So lets say entry kit from Nikon is cheaper but if you plan to pick up another lens it will adds up, and seem more pricier than Canon which I still think it's expensive but still more resonable price.

It's impossible to say which is better, Canon or Nikon. Both have equal pros and cons. It's all up to preference.

Yeah there was a lot of variation in the beginning, I'm not sure about now though. You could always use AF fine tune if it needs adjusting. Their new 35mm 1.4 is supposed to be a lot better.

Id personally say Nikkor Lens take the cake, but that's my opinion. One of the 2 reasons I've gone the path of Nikon is camera body's (feel and button lay out) and the color they produce. Lens vary, and there are many companies that make good entry level lens (tamron for one) and companies that make amazing entry level - full frame professional lens (like Sigma).

And for a low cost, good quality wide angle, the sigma 10-20mm is a great buy. Think it's around $300. And really, I found it to produce amazing images in low light. The only issue's that I had was the edges of photos would be kinda soft compared to the center of the photo. Really you could only tell in large viewing of images, but other than that, great lens. I regret selling it. Makes for awesome rolling shots, when you don't have 3 lanes of a road to use!

This is using a Sigma 10-20mm

Hmm. I've decided to go for a tokina 17-35 f4, here in a few weeks. I definitely could adjust the AF.. Just don't think it would be worth the trouble to me.
I'd be all over that newer 35mm 1.4 if it were half the price. Hahah.

Stenger, that's a pretty cool shot.

Did a bit of car photography myself, today. I dont think they turned out too bad for my first time shooting cars.

I've been pondering on this one for about a year now and keep coming back to it. Now I found they have a free filter with it...like they're taunting me.

Don't quote me on this but I believe the cheaper lenses maybe because of the quality of glass used.

Agreed. It's really all about the lens. If you have a crappy lens the body doesn't matter. With that said if you want the best quality lens you're going to pay no matter what brand camera you have.

Thanks for the info, great shot! Love action shots, one reason I want wide angle so I can shoot right next to someone and capture the whole subject.

If you're looking for something THAT wide, I'd forget about the 35mm and pick up the 10-20mm. The 35, while considered a wide angle, isn't very wide.

If only they weren't FWD. That generation had a lot of potential.

Has anyone in here used a lens from Samyang/Rokinon? I'm considering giving their 35mm 1.4 a try.

Jon, I haven't used one, but it looks like DxOMark ranked them pretty high. Granted, they state that it's best at f2, where the others are at f1.4.

trdscion, that's badass!

I had the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 and I loved it. Super sharp at 2.8 in the center, though the edges got pretty soft. Good through the mid range and then soft again at f/11 and beyond. I've heard nothing but good things about the 35mm 1.4 and you Nikon guys get the auto-focus confirm chip.

Took this with the 5D2 and the new 40mm pancake lens. And I still really want to see more Guy Fawkes photos from you guys...

Yeah I've been watching reviews on Youtube all morning. Optically it seems to be awesome. The only part I hesitate about is it being full manual. I'm not a stranger to it since I shoot film, but I want the 35 for street photos and sometimes you have to be quick.

That's a characteristic of most UWA lenses. I haven't noticed it much on my 24mm, but I usually shoot wide open anyway. If I don't get it, I'm also looking at the Nikon 35-70mm. Old school push/pull metal barrel goodness.

Today would be a good day to take a Guy Fawkes shot. It's all gloomy and whatnot.
