Congrats on the new tC, I want one!!

If you are trying to save money unless you have the sales contract rewritten (I believe you have 3 days from the day that you sign) your monthly payments will not go down they will just refund the cost of lowjack to you.

Lowjack is a nice tool to find cars that are stolen. In my opinion it is cool for expensive cars that can not be replaced, possibly if you have a rare special edition. In the case of Scions if you have an RS (Reliease Series) then I would think about it. If you just have a regular tC you can always just get another one and save the money. Sales people like to push all the extra warrantees and low jack especially for people who are buying a new car. The sales guys get a commission for the more warrantees and add-ons they can get you to purchase. We all want the best for our babies and want to take care of them. The reality is the lowjack system is hidden somewhere in your car usually under the back passenger seat or in the trunk if someone wants your car they will get it. If they want your car for parts they can have it taken apart in 2 hours and toss the low jack. If you are not going to do any mods to your car and keep it as it is then your car is already less of a target. I would skip it and get your money back.

As for an Alarm you would be surprised but the little blinking red light does detour people from messing with your car. Anything you can add to the built in engine immobilizer will help protect your car. The question is how much do you want to spend.

 

I'm not a big lojack fan... the Scion tC's chip protection is pretty solid and it is much harder to start/steal a tC than other cars... realistically, and for the price... a basic alarm will be your best protection, as it will make noise and further lock down your ignition system... I love the Viper 791xv alarm system that you can get at almost any large stereo place... it's reasonably priced and is two-way, which means it tells you when it goes off by beeping on your remote...

 

I love the two way remote on the viper and the remote start capability for the cold Washington winters.

 

I am probably going to get lo-jack on my S2000, only because the seats cost about $1500 a piece...or something crazy like that. As a result of that I am for sure getting seat locks and another alarm (it has the factory one now). Any other car though that I have had, I wouldn't get it installed.

Like Mo said, if it's a really expensive car or a special edition or a highly stolen one, then it might be worth it. I haven't seen the TC's climbing up on the stolen list yet.

 

About the only good thing is that lojack will save on your insurance rates.

A LoJack will often allow the police to find some of the larger pieces if your car is stolen...

 

If the hidden transmitter is still there :D and if a cop happens to drive by where the car is stored and can pickup the signal from the transmitter.

I would like to see some stats on how many cars they recover and how fast.

That is not true!!!

They are just trying to scare you! Toyota of Seattle tried to pull the same thing on us when we opted out of the warantee and lojack. We then went and put in a Viper 2-way with remote start.

Don't fall for it and go get the security system YOU WANT!!!

This is some truth to what they say. If you have someone install an alarm and it messes something up then Toyota is not liable. Duh, you would blame the fool that installed the alarm. The chances of that happening are small. Just make sure to use a reputable shop. All my cars have always had alarms installed actually this is the first thing I do to all cars I have ever purchased. As mocascion said this is a scare tactic they are just mad to be losing out on the commission from selling you a lowjack.

 

Well see how it goes if they do just give you your money back you can always just put the money aside and pay it down with your payment this kinda sucks cuz you end up paying interest on the money. The better option would be to refinance your loan with a different bank just make sure you can get a comparable interest rate. Good Luck!

just rememeber... dealer has to prove the alarm caused an issue... they cant blame alternator problem on the alarm.... (unless the alarm guy did somethin way whack) or something like that... now alarm install and a minor electrical prob like your blinkers turn on.. possible due to alarm issue.. but again they have to prove it caused the fault

 

Any update on what the dealer said?
