That press release says they are unveiling an "all new sports coupe". The tC is a touring coupe- hence tC. This may be a whole new bag of chips.

I doubt they will go with anything as fancy as push button start (what's the point, you still need the key), or wi-fi (which is possible-think Verizon's wireless web and T-Mobile Hot Spots)

Whatever it is, they are getting exactly what they intended buy the release- a lot of anticipation. Good marketing tool.

i don't think Scion/Toyota ever officially said that tC = touring coupe.

it does not mean touring coupe. it was just a simple substitute for xC.

I can't imagine the tC coming with any type of forced induction. the tC now costs 17k and a turbocharger with factory warranty from toyota will bump this price up at least 21k. And since scion is aiming at the younger crowd, they will want to keep the price as far below the 20k border without jeopardizing the quality of anything.

I think we can expect either a smaller or same sized engine, possibly the new camry 4 cylinder? The big difference i think we will see if that the new tC will be lighter than the original tC. Hopefully they will shift their ideas more towards the last generation celica.

I dont see why Toyota/Scion would make a vehicle to essentially compete with itself.

Thoughts

the only thing it could compete with would be the tC, which im sure will be discontinued once this concept is released to consumers to buy.

It does it with Lexus every day. ES 330/Camry SE V6, GS 350/Avalon Limited, RX 330/Highlander Limited, GX 470/4 Runner Limited V8, LX 470/ Landcruiser.

And very soon with Toyota/Scion: Yaris/xA

But anyway, Toyota has been developing popular prototypes into limited production models on roughly a 24 month timeframe for years. The most recent is the FJ Cruiser.

I have been told by Scion directly that there are no plans to vary from the 3 model lineup that they are currently offering. Just to update those models on there scheduled timeframe.

A soon to be dealer in my town told me by the time their store opens (Spring 07) Scion is supposed to add two new models to the line up... this could be them just shooting the breeze but who knows... Maybe the tC will stay in the line and this will be a bigger/fast version of it...similar to that of the toyota corolla and camry

the only reason tC is not xC is because volvo has the XC. In any case, tC matches up nice with Toyota Celica eh ;)

You keep thinking Scion is going to release you a high performance TC or a new TC with 250 hp. While that could be a possibility it seems far from there lineup right now. Cheap, well built, well powered cars easily customized.

I would expect that Celica like car in that one like to be a Toyota and nearing 25k, just my opinion.

.. AWD, rear-wheel biased
.. 200hp@6000rpm, 200tq@4000rpm
.. optional 3.5L V6 with 280hp@5700rpm, 260tq@3200rpm
.. thick/strong paint job
.. minimal overhang
.. aluminum alloy componentry
.. LED tail lights
.. projector head lights
.. a price range of $18,000-$24,000

the gs versus the avalon is nowhere near feasible. the avalon is FWD.

It's probably going to be another crazy Scion concept like the t2B. It's probably going to have like 1 door on one side and brake lights in the front of the car. But it will have a bangin' Pioneer sound system. And it will be shaped like an egg.

i have it on good authority that the concept vehicle will look exactly like the 2006 tC. Only difference will be no interior squeaks and no hatch rattles.
of course, this being a concept vehicle...it will never make it into production.
