I'm thinking they will try to make another big money-maker like the did with the xB2. Think heavy, powerful and not-to-efficient that will appeal to the masses. Don't get me wrong, I love the new xB, but it is all about bringing in more customers, while unintentionally losing many of the "unique" customers that LOVED the xB1, such as myself (I would much rather have a new xD, which I love to death).
A mini-truck would be awsome, but I think it is unlikely. I expect some type of mini-crossover that will slot in with the other Toyotas. You can never have enough of those money-makers. RAV4, Venza, Highlander.... and the new Scion. It will probably have the upcoming new 2.7L that will go in the Venza/Camry whatever it is.
Thats my guess, though I hope I'm wrong...

I personally don't like the idea of a "mini" truck. I think it's a complete contradiction to the idea of having a truck. For me, if I owned a truck I'd want it to have as much capability as humanly possible even if I only use 30% of it's capacity (in terms of power, load, etc..). It's far greater to have it & not need it versus needing it and not having the ability to use/do it.

I wouldnt buy a xP to haul lumber, or a couch. I would buy the xP cause its different. The same reason i purchased my RS1.

I agree with you 100%. You want a truck to haul a bunch of lumber, go buy a $18K+ Tacoma or a $30K Tundra. Generally you aren't going to get out the door with a Tacoma(MSRP anyway) for less than $21K.
Except for the Ford Ranger, that hasn't been updated in who knows how long, there really isn't a small truck segment out there. Even the Colorado is bigger than the old S-10.
I think a Mini truck would be a great edition to the scion line-up. Utility to haul some small stuff with a couple people inside.
Isn't Scion supposed to be marketed to the younger generation anyway? Younger adults that are not generally going to be hauling lumber around? You've got three friends to take with you?
Buy an xB or throw 1 or 2 of your friends in the back of the truck. That's how I used to do it in college with my S-10.
Last thing....I think it would make more sense and sound better if the truck were to be named xT for truck than xP for Windows.
rumor is that the tC is gonna get a new name altogether - tC has done very well in the market - still many "unheard of the tC" clients out there - but a little played out to the existing customers - Scion is doing great job keeping up the image of the tC - how about a bigger platform, run a V6 and market it like a (2) door Charger/300M size? Chrsyler is dumping money into their 300 M line to push the aftermarkets to the hispanics and brotha's out there - who is scion marketing to?? The Gen-Y'ers who have no race or social status - they like to hook up their rides and have the latest and greatest - expect a bigger faster better looking value - hard to do when the tC was and is the only 2-door car under 20K that looks so good. why not bridge the gap between tC and Lexus and offer a sporty fast fun car??
I just went to my local Toyota/Scion dealer for an oil change for my 04 Corolla and talked to a Salesman while waiting.
I mentioned the NY Auto Show and he told me the concept was going to be a truck. He didn't have details or couldn't give details, but he said it looked very futuristic. That is all I know about that....I may go back soon to try to get some more details.
It's possible he saw the ABAT concept, but I think Scion will introduce a truck and the NY Auto Show. It could possibly be based on the ABAT but Scionified.
I guess only time will tell...I say Bring On the Truck!!!!! Just don't call it xP.

yea the truck would be nice to have in our line-up their is no need to exile one model, im sure it will be a compact truck with 2 doors and 2 half doors like the FJ cruiser and a 3 foot bed, big college kid rush on that, a 16-17K mini pickup(truck on car frame) with style and convienence, i pray for RWD i would do a trade as long as it comes in SW or BBM with a 5 or 6 speed manual....a kid can dream lol, i think a scion pickup would blow away any sales on the current market like (colorado/canyon, ranger, f-150)
Seeing the FT-HS right next to the LF-A made me realize that they're very similar.

Just take away the concept styling of the FT-HS and you've basically got the LF-A. Hopefully this means Toyota is finally realizing that they need something sporty

The tc engine should be replaced with either the 2tr-fe...159hp...but 180tq@3800......or the 3s-gte....256hp...239tq.....but this wudnt happen due to the cost.
Cant wait to c it...very excited!!!!

*cough*I believe they are the same.....just like the lexus es is a ripped apart camry....the gs is an avalon.....they just made the ft...lexusfied....luxury....they just do a lil body work and diff interior. Most car companies do this....FORD is too obvious...the edge looks exactly the same on all 3 brands of ford...mercury..lincoln...toyota does a great job using the smae model 4 their luxury line up....they really differentiate the 2....look at the lexus sc.....its a solora....just wit a diff back.....rx is now the new venza thing toyota is puttin out.....and the suv's are directly the seqouia and 4runner.....but they distinguish the models, which is why i dont think acura is luxury cuz the diff are too similar....and u kno the tc is just a coupe gs or is
It would be a disgrace to see the tC disappear and/or replaced by a "minitruck".. Personally, I find the whole concept contradicting and would rather have a more capable Ridgeline or A-Bat (Toyota's future concept, although I find the grill w/ headlight combo kinda fugly) or something comparable.
In any case, if Scion must have a "minitruck" in their lineup,,,,, fine... Just don't eliminate the tC/sports coupe. You'd (Toyota) be alienating a huge segment of your market.
My $0.02

i just got pictures of the concept.. sike..
i hope its no truck or van..
and yea the fuse ismost likely going to be the 2nd generation tC, while the concept at the NY show will most likely be the fourth scion vehicle...
