Scion Hako Revealed at NY Auto Show
Whoa. This thing is "too" weird. I like it better than the Xb2 though!
The front is terrible. The back is nice...
And, the tC is a damn Celica with less style!
tC's are everywhere, they are as common as Cavaliers,
and they are boring.
XB1 FTW

I think scion made a big mistake with the whole 90 degree windshield, i think that is the one thing people hate about it, if it had a normalish windshiel angle it would look pretty sweet, Most people are saying its dumb just becuase of that,
i hope scion doesnt just take the imediate negative reaction and stop there, hopefully they will listen to us and see why the poor reaction, and realize most of us would be much more optimistic with a small change or two.

Like it or not, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a tC in SoCal. It's ubiquitous and in need of a serious re-think IMO.
So whether or not the production version of the Hako replaces the tC, I think this concept is brilliant.
Once you strip away all the obvious show car bits that have to be economized for production, you're left with a very unique interpretation of an early 30's Ford roadster.
Do we know on which side of the Pacific this car was designed? I like the fusion of classic Americana themes and Japanese neo-tech aesthetic.
The vertical windscreen is what defined that era of lakesters and street rods, so IMO it'd be a shame if they conceded on that point. Maybe 5 degrees of rake max.
If I were to change anything, I'd like to see the rear end slope down to a separate trunk, kind of like a 3-window Ford coupe. As is, the rear end is a little too similar to the Nissan Cube for my liking.
Other than that, keep it light, keep it small.

I think Scion has succeeded at creating a vehicle that will sell worse than the xA. Looks like I am not buying another Scion anytime soon.
How do I get the job to design crap and still get paid.

With the new roof standards that are supposedly coming out in a year or two for roll over crashes I don’t see how this will be possible if the it is truly all glass or the current standards for that matter.
Scion is considering adding up to three additional models to the lineup, iincluding the toyota iQ! Read the article hear.

I came to this thread, I saw the photos, I very nearly blew a mouthfull of coca cola all over my computer.
If I had actually been there to see the thing in person, who knows what might have been hurled from my stomach onto the stage. when I think 'scion' I think: cutting edge, form following funcition, futuristic and not retro.

Be it an AE86 replacement, a Celica All Trac Turbo (GT-4) or an MR-2 TURBO decendant, NOT LIKE the FUGLY MR-S, hell I wonder if they used some of the designers who did the horrible MR-S on this Horrible Hako..?
Oh ... and Scion NEVER produced a turboed, RWD or AWD car, ever! Scions idea was to bring affordable cars to those who were looking to get into Toyota/Lexus. Its a stepping stone and nothing more. If you want performance, look to Toyota and Lexus.
And i will gladly point out agian for those like you who just dont get it. Scion marketed this as a coupe, not a tC replacement. The likely hood of a tC replacement would most likely be the FUSE. Most haters here arent in the age bracket they are looking for OR they own a ho-hum tC coupe.
Dont like it .. sell your tC for a Tibby look-a-like. There are thousands who get their drivers licenses every day, and they need an affordable quality built car. That is where Scion comes in.
