If the door is only 25" long, and you've got the panel and B-pillar partially intruding the entrance, plus the wheel/C-pillar intruding the rear, you're only left with about 22-23". I'm 6'3, 180lbs (tall and thin) and from hip to hip I'm about 20" wide. That means that 90% of the US population, would not be able to get into the back. If the doors were suicide, you wouldn't have the B-Pillar blocking the way, allowing for a completely unblocked path (minus front seats).
Unblocked??? Not exactly...ever ridden in the back of an RX-8? I have. The most pain the butt thing about getting in and out of the backseat are the seat belts that block your entrance and exit. I feel like I am wrestling an octopus in order to earn a seat in the back.
You act as if Scion couldn't move the placement of the pillars. Remember this vehicle is a concept. It is still on the drawing board and can go through many changes before it reaches the public market, if it does at all.

You were the one who made the suggestion to make the rear door 25" long and saying suicide doors weren't needed for that size door. Go back over to that RX-8 you got into the back of and measure the length of it, then re-think it as if it was a 'normal' door.
I understand completely what you are saying. I am not a moron.
Here's what would need to happen. Shorten the snout and bring the firewall forward giving the vehicle more length for actually holding people and cargo and less for a gas drinking engine. It would look much different than it does now, but it could be done.

Yeah, it could be done with a complete overhaul on the concept design, but I was talking about the photoshop pic, which has a shortened front door already. I'm going to see it Saturday, so I'll have some friends stand next to it to get some sizing pictures, that way it will give a much better sense of size.
i saw this car in person at the carshow yesterday. it's definitely interesting to say the least. the only visible downside i see is the absolutely 90 degree windshield which is perpendicular to the hood.
if you think cracked/dented/dinged up windshields are a problem now, imagine with this thing!
otherwise, it was a nice car. color was really really loud - the type you can see with your eyes closed. but the stance was nice. it's wide and low - it seems like it would be a lot of fun on the corners.
it's a 4 seater too.

Keep in mind that in Photoshopping changes to this vehicle, more than just changing a few lines can be implied...
There is NOTHING to say that the four door imaginings are absolutely the same size as the plastic model at the show.
If folks can imagine sloping the windshield, adding some doors, making a larger rear hatch, adding usable mirrors, shortening the hood, adding pillars, etcetera, etcetera, they can certainly imagine making the chassis long enough to fit doors for all four passengers.
So, for those saying that the non-existant chassis under this plastic bodied mock up won't accomodate four doors, just roll with the ideas being presented, and think about liking or disliking them. Don't worry about if it is practical at a specific size - it is a prototype without any running gear or even workable door handles.
The people Photoshopping it mostly haven't stood next to it, and are imagining it at a size where their modifications to the basic design actually DO work, so look at the Photoshopped pics as being of a size to work.
(I still think after all is said and done the four door redesigns done by folks with Photoshop mostly end up looking like the current bB/Materia with less "C" pillar...)

Flow with it - Scion was going "blue sky" on their thinking when they made the Hako, keep thinking in that mode as you help them figure out what it SHOULD be like.
(One thing I find funny is that most everyone is being much more conservative in their re-designs than Scion was in their original design.)

When I did the 4-door I changed a lot of things.
The wheelbase is actually longer-probably 6-8 inches I am guessing. I also did move the front of the front door and the windshield farther towards the front maybe 3-5 inches. (given those wheel are probably about 17 inch versions the rear door would be almost 30 inches at it's widest)
I think the 3 door or 5 door option would be really cool-both could be the good mileage people carrying version, the other could have an optional turbo fitted to the xD motor and a 6 speed flappie paddle gearbox via lexus technology-that would save room too.

Personally, I think the concept vehicle is pretty close to right on the money! I dig the hell out of the flat windshield and the general "model T" style of the roof. Hell, I'd go so far as to say the windhield/roof is my favorite feature! I think this one is along the lines of the 1st Gen xB...love it or hate, whereas the 2nd Gen xB seems more widely marketable. IMO. Your mileage may vary. Batteries not included. Some assembly required.
Maybe somethings got lost in the translation of what i posted a few pages back. From center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel on the Hako was just over 7 1/2 heal-2-toe steps for me. Using the same exact method to measure the Yaris in the next room over ... exactly 7 1/2 steps. Is it an exact measurement, no but its pretty damn close. Oh, BTW, the measurement of the 1st gen xB ... 7 1/2 steps. The measurement of the xD, xB and tC were 8 or more.
Going off that, you now need to extend the hood by at least a foot over the 1st gen xB. Now, the little extra space that is in the rear of the 1st gen xB with the rear seats up, take that away. The rear seats in the Hako sit right up against the rear glass. Going off these details and the pics provided and the fact that im standing next to it in said pics you can not add a 2nd set of doors on this coupe. It was not designed to have them there, period.
Now if all yall who are crying that it needs to be a 4 door, drive to your local Scion dealership and purchase a 2nd gen xB. Cause that is ultimately what you are looking for anyway if you want the Hako in a sedan.
