The entry-level truck segment is being ignored. Gone are the compact S-10, B2200, Toyota Pikcup, Nissan Hardbody, and Ranger. The Ranger is still around (not for much longer though), The Chevy Colorado is probably the next smallest, but it's still big.

This looks like it'd be more of a sports truck than a work vehicle, though.
True, and I love that concept.

I really miss the compact truck market. I would love to get my hands on one. Any other websites mention the truck? God, I hope they do it!

this is my opinion about this truck / xP...

Drop the Supra Engine / Lexus IS300 motor in it and call it a day ;)

That motor is so outdated, I don't know why people still glorify it. It was a great motor 10 years ago...

The new Toyota GR series 3.5L motors out out just about the same amount of HP, NA, with fatter torque curve, better MPG, and less emissions. Even the puny 2.0L evo motors are leap years ahead in output per L.

What we all need to keep in mind is that the rendering that was done was commissioned by some random dot com owner with absolutely no ties (that I am aware of) to Scion, or Toyota Corporate. The articles I have read on it even stated that everything about the specifications were speculation. They guy probably heard the same rumors manu of us had that Scion was considering a minitruck platform.

I for one am all for it. I currently own two xBs and would either buy a third Scion in minitruck format, or trade in one of the current xBs if Scion were to release this.

If I had to guess at what it should be I would say uinibody construction with a wishbone rear suspension and MacPherson front suspension. If they want to keep it truly micro, they will limit it to either a two seater with buckets or a three seater with a bench, providing only a small cargo space behind the seats. Logic would state that they would go with a RWD platform, but there could be some cost savings with going FWD. (Please, please don't do that to us.)

As far as engines, I think they would stick with a 4 cylinder. Which they would choose at this point, I am not sure. They would need something fairly fuel efficient, but powerful enough with enough torque so that people that do occasionally haul or two small loads (many small businesses) would dismiss the vehicle all together.

And I personally don't care for the styling of the rendering. There are a lot of features I didn't care for at all. The direction Toyota has planned for Scion is yet to be seen. Their philosohpy for the company seems to be evolving with each new model. The only thing that seems to remain constant is their target demographic.

hahaha Why would a 2jz-gte be put into a Scion knowing there is a certain demographic and price range that they cater to? Plus the engine is outdated. Yes, it's a beast, but just wouldn't be financially right to throw it in a Scion. If you guys want higher hp, then buy a Toyota or a Lexus. Too many folks expect so much out of a Scion and miss the whole point of what Toyota intended them to be.

It depends which 2jz you're talking about. As far as I can tell the GR 3.5 liter in the IS350 is rated at 305 hp. The 2JZ-GTE 3.0 liter was rated at 320 hp. The GR MPG is rated between 22-28, the Supra usually did about the same, the low 20's combined. It's fairly even really. I'm willing to bet the GR has better emissions though which is very positive, if you ask me. The GR is all aluminum though, whereas the 2jz has a cast iron block, meaning it's strong, but heavy. Then it was also rather easy to bump the boost on the 2jz as well for little money.

As for the evo motor, the 4g63, it's been around since the first Evo back in 92...it's just...well, it's evolved. As far as I can recall it's still a cast iron block.

Sorry for being off topic!
