Default DIY Led Tail lights???

I have the original tail lights and i was wanting to switch every exterior light to led so my power usage is almost nothing. What size leds would i use for the reverse lights, brake lights, rear turn signals, and front turn signals? I used a wide angle 5 led for the back up lights and it looked amazing...any suggestions?

the bulb sizes should be located in your owners manual.

also.. alternatively.. you can check out this site.
http://home.cfl.rr.com/icdedppl/faq.html

there are many places that sells LED relacements. (i.e. superrbrightleds.com) there are however some disadvantages of using LEDs.

one.. turn signals will hyperflash unless you use load resistors or another relay.

two... some bulbs won't provide enough light output or project them in away so that the reflectors will care (thus the light output is going to be lower) but then again... doen't really apply much.. it's just a experimental thing.. try it.. if you like it... then great

also... backup lught = reverse light.... i assume you meant you changed out your license plate lights? (with those 5 led ones?)

led's are directional so they will not reflect well, therefore the light output will be lower.

You power usage isn't going to change. an LED uses around 2.2-3.5 volts to run, if it goes much higher or lower you're gonna fry em, so you're going to need resistors to regulate the power to the LEDS so they don't receive all 12 volts that your cars battery is putting out, thus making NONE of them work. No matter what you're still gonna get 12V running to the lights.

I've read a few comments on SL already saying that they did not like how some of the led replacement bulbs looked in their car.

^^it is because of this reason.

ooo i see... but if i put them in the rear taillights they should be fine right?? cuz they will be facing outwards anyways.

i bought two pairs of 18 LED lights so i figured they would be brighter.. and i know about the hyper blinking.. but i didnt think they would still take the 12v like the guy above said

the led bulbs themselves have resistors built into the assembly.. they are 12V bulbs.... but they do draw less current.. thus it does save you on power.

the only way to really determine if it's brighter or not is to test them out yourself... (what i've said is from comments and what i know)

i haven't done anything LED wise on my taillights yet as i'm working on a LED retro... no bulb replacements for me.

oo.. well i thought about it, and i did buy 18 led lights.. which means i have 12 led's on top, facing forward, and 6 led's that face outward inside of the light.. so i guess they will reflect like my halogens.

and i have the TYC taillights, so i really just wanted to complete the look, and to be honest, i kinda like the hyper blinker.

its not ricey imho, because when you hvae led's and its fast, you know the reason, and when its with halogens, theirs two reasons.. 1) your a ricer, 2) your light blew out

3157 wont work.. we have a wedge type bulb, while that is a screw in bulb.

their are numerous amounts of bulbs made.. i have seen a 30 LED 7443 bulb before, so just keep looking.
