It's fairly easy to do. I installed my TYC's this last weekend and it took about a half hour. Once you get over the sound of pulling the bumper off from the sides it's fine.
ahahhaha. Yea that sound isn't too pleasent to the ears.

Its like ____kk

^That was the first time I ever removed anything from my car. I just said the heck with it. If I mess up the back bumper, I'll drive my butt to the dealership and they can fix it, so I just pulled and off it came, lol. My fiancee's face was like AHHHH!!!

When I said come help me put it back on, he didn't even want to touch it, he thought it was gonna break or something

I just had the same problem with LED taillights I tried to install on my son's brand-new 07 TC. They are made by Sonar and they reuse the stock turn and back-up bulbs but the park/brake light are LED with a 4-wire harness that plugs into the stock bulb-socket.

After installation the turn-signals and park phases worked but on depressing the brake pedal, the 10A 'STOP' fuse under the dash popped and both the brake lights went out and it wouldn't shift out of park.

We replaced the fuse, flipped the LED plug-connector the other way into the bulb socket and got working brake-lights but then the 10A 'TAIL' fuse popped when we turned on the parking lights.

Now on the OE bulb, it goes into the socket and makes the correct connection regardless of which side is 'up'. It appears that there is a 'Y' in the black wires leading from the connector/adapter in the LED harness that is attempting to join two of the original bulb contacts as a 'common' circuit-leg. If you look at the bulb, none of the four external contact wires at the bulb-base connect together for a common-pole inside the bulb.

I have the Sonar LED taillights on one of my xB's and never had a minute's trouble. They also re-use the stock turn and back-up bulbs but those are not wired, they twist into a circuit-plate like dashboard lights so they did not come with an adapter that connects into a bulb socket. The main taillight connector block just plugged into a mating block for the entire lamp unit (all functions).

I have been unable to locate a tech assist with the vendor or Sonar directly.

I can only assume that this configuration worked okay with '05-06 models and there must have been at least a minor wiring change for '07?? My take on the problem is feedback between park and stop lamp phases through the 'common' created in the LED set's adapter harness. I'm leaning toward noting the specific polarity on the stop and park phases in the original lamp socket which is becoming later conjoined in the "Y" of the LED harness/adapter and installing rectifiers that would prevent the potential feedback short.

Has anyone else figured this out?

Meanwhile, the exciting LED tail lamps are out and the stock lamps are back in.

Well, at least we learned that the A/T models will not release the lock unless the brake-lamp circuit is powered; blown fuse = no brakelights and stuck in park! (unless you pry the cover off the manual release )

You can fix the shift-lock its really easy if you know for sure that the lights are working fine, brake and turn signals.

Under the steering wheel to the left side is the fuse panel, gotta pop it off to reach it. Bust out your car manual, and look for the fuses. They label each one with what component it controls in the manual. There is a fuse for the shift-lock mechanism that controls some other things too, I just popped it out for about 10 seconds and put it back in. Started the car, and *POOF* no more shift-lock engage.

Its really awkward to reach them since your leaning underneath to pull them out. Use the little grabber thing from the fuse box in the engine compartment to make it easier on yourself.

Took like 5 mins to fix.

You can also change out the fuses for the stop lights and turn signals too while your down there. Or at least check to make sure that they aren't blown.

Thanks that's interesting. In our case it was the STOP fuse which eliminated power from the brake light switch which also releases the shift lock that was blown.

I have found another forum which notes the exact taillights I have being miswired at the plug. Seems the Green (brake +) and one of the Black (ground) are reversed in the plug adapter for the lights.

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...r=asc&&start=0

Sure enough, ours were RED/GREEN/BLACK/BLACK instead of RED/BLACK/GREEN/BLACK! It means that the plug was shorting directly to ground depending on which phase of the lamp socket was being energized and which way 'up' the plug was inserted.

Hopefully my son can get back by tommorrow and we'll test the connection before installing the taillamp again! He bought a couple of extra fuses too so.. here's hoping!

THANKS SL!!
