Thanks in advance as I have Silverstars and love them . I am just curious as to if aftermarket HIDs are worth it
Well idk anything about the ones sold here but i can tell you about the oznium ones. They come with a bulb and ballast. stock plugs go into ballast on 1 end, the new bulb goes into ballast at other end. the ballast regulates the voltage going to the bulb so it doesnt blow.

i don't buy aftermarket kits, mines are OEM. TSX projector retroed on my headlights. hella gen 3 ballasts and philips 4300k

I have looked at onizum's specs, i think they are okay. name is everything in this materialized world. don't buy any non-mentioned names on the forums and you will be fine. any ebay kits with no names is a NO automatically. u kno.. those 150 dollar kits...

It is also a bad idea to put hids in a halogen housing since you will end up blinding people (usually not the problem as no one cares LOL) But the huge problem is, you iwll blind yourself in bad weather. For example, tried turning on high beams during heavy fog/rain/snow? can't see right? HIDs in reflective halogen housing will do that to u

silver stars sucks. It lasted me about 4 months on 1 side and 6 on the other.

Ouch ! Thanks for the info . My SS are working great now for almost 2 years . I installed using latex gloves . Mine used to blow out after 4 or 5 months no matter how careful I was on install . I think the gloves really worked ! I love the SS . Just hearing so much about HID aftermarkets . Wondered what the hype is if they are of poor quality . Jlevi offers a lifetime warranty on Prolumens . Hmmmm......... Also notice that 1 seller on here has them made in China while the other has it made in Japan . So much to consider .

k can represent 000s, but in this case, NO it does not, 12k does not equal 12000k, As the measure of colors are in degrees kevlin! The two Ks means two different things!

to IcetC... i doubt that is possible as aftermarket kit HID bulbs are specificaly made for non hid headlamps. HID, OEM ones are made for HID headlamps, D2S bulbs

ok 101 class type question..

do HIDs work like our regular lights, as in the way it turns on. First low beam, then normal, then high beam if necessary?

mmm, low beam and normal beam... what's the difference?
the order of lights being turned on are usually standard, park lights, low beams, then high beams

THIS IS IMPORTANT:
Some cars, like the tC, when at the high beam mode, the low beams also is turned on. This is good.
Others, in high beam settings, the low beam lights are turned off.
This is bad for if you flash your high beams, your HIDs will turn off and turn back on

And to ur other question about hids bulbs, they are different as it requires a ballast to powerup the bulbs. For intial warming up of the bulbs, it draws higher power. HID bulbs have chemical compound that needs to be melted and turned into a gas(this is the color of the bulb btw). The ballast can not tell if the bulb is already warmed up or not, thus if u constantly turning on and off the HID bulb, the ballast keep sending in high power to the bulb. the bulb is already hot and it can damage the bulb.
So the answer is NO, it does not work like regular lights

I'm just wondering why everyone says negative remarks about hids in a halogen housing. Didnt the first TL & CL Acuras and late 90's & early 2000's model Maximas have hids in reflective housings. Ive had other tc's w/ hids behind me and it didnt blind me it wasnt even brighter than stock. The only hids in reflective headlights that seemed to bright were in a dodge truck whos lights were eye level behind me.

how about the toyota prius? The answer is simple... their reflective housing was DESIGNED for HIDs.

Actually, the Maxima's lights had some issued and i belived they were sued...

so there you have it, Halogen reflective housings are made for halogens, not HIDs

Question:
What are the HID color temp(s) come from cars that have OEM HIDs? like Benz/BMW, lux car type, etc.
