1) It is impossible to reach 300 horsepower at the wheels with this motor without a turbocharger or BIG nitrous shot. Sorry, it just doesn't have the displacement or EXTENSIVE tuning to properly accomodate it. If you DO somehow manage it, it'll be an undriveable dyno queen at best.

2) Standard oxygen content of atmospheric air is about 26%. Oxygen content of nitrous oxide is 66% (much more "by weight"). That, and when you consider your intake temps go from ambient to about -40*, you get a LOT of oxygen being dumped in all at once.

Be sure you keep it low (up to 50) or invest in a wet kit, which adds additional fuel. Even then, I wouldn't go above 100 without some serious tuning considerations (search them to find out.)

im looking at this..
http://www.compperformancegroupstore...NITROUSSYSTEMS

its a wet system which i understand but the direct port part i dont i believe that nos spraying into each cylinder......any info on this?.....

i heard wet was the safest is this true?....
what would i need to do to be able to spray more than a 50 shot?...
any dangers or negative effects i should know about ?...im doing this right so it should come out to about $1,500 (bottle warmers, electronic bottle opener, safety blow down tube, etc)

is there any reason i shouldnt do this? im lookin at a 50 shot, wet, but if i want to spray more what do i have to do?

If you cannot afford to have your car down for a week or two and pay for engine internal repair or have to buy a new engine, you shouldn't do it.

^^ YUP ^^

Those are wise words for sure.

If you got a bike or bus pass, I would suggest getting a valve and head job, new pistons and rods, and raise your redline. I don't know how much power that'd make but it'd definitely be more interesting than going turbo.

i just want to know if theres any reason not to go the nitrous route instead of the turbo or supercharger route?...

You can say the same thing for any modification. If you cannot afford to deal with a worst-case scenario, then it would be smarter to hold off until A) you can or B) you find something else.

The only time you'll legitimately notice having nitrous is on the track. It will likely help your times if used wisely. If you plan to use it off the track, you shouldn't get it.

this is the reason i have resorted to building up my Monte Carlo....a 350 Chevy is a lot easier to modify, and can handle a 150 shot of nos pretty easy.....

random post, sorry

I say use it on the track because that's the only practical place for it.

Why would you use it on the street?

To spray a lot more than a 50 shot you'd probably need to do forged internals, injectors, street/race clutch and flywheel, and BRAKES.

To be honest, a ZPI Stage 0 or TRD Supercharger is probably what you're looking for, in terms of gains and reliability. The reliability of both is probably better than a car running nitrous, especially since the TRD S/C is covered by your warranty. If you're going to be spending $1,500 on a nitrous system, you should seriously consider spending some more for better gains ALL the time, not just when you've pushed that button.

Plus, you don't have to refill a turbo or superchager.

i'll tell you from experience... the amount of $ you pay extra for gas because of running a supercharger or Turbo... will pay for your Nitrous refills. I don't know what kind of area you live in, but where I live, it is unlikely to be able to floor my car for more than a few seconds at a time on the street, cost effectiveness, and performance gain is #1 with Nitrous in my book. I've always run nitrious above all add ons, my first car was a 1990 Maxima with a 100hp shot, car had just about 200,000 miles on it, tracked it every week in Texas... sold it running awsome. Never experienced any deterioration in performance because of Nitrious. I did blow up my xA once, but it took a 100hp shot to do so, and i asked for it. The tC will run like a champ till the day you sell it using Nitrous, AS LONG AS U STAY WITHIN THE MOTORS LIMITS. I do run a Turbo now, but to tell you the truth, Nitrous was much easeir and worry-free for every day driving.

did insurance cover the blowed up xa?...what did you do? why did it blow?.....if you put money into the engines internals would it have held the 100 shot? what company would you recommend....what do you think about this kit?..http://www.compperformancegroupstore...NITROUSSYSTEMS

The way I see it, N2O serves pretty much the same purpose as a turbo or supercharger but only at WOT. Some people feel like it's cheating, I imagine, because it's almost akin to taking steroids whereas a turbo would possible be more like working out? I haven't thought too much about a good analogy but in the end, it's just another means of going faster. If 50 or 75 hp is that worthwhile to you, then go for it. I don't know if it can actually be more or less legal on degrees but I imagine it's easier to run a stealth N2O setup than a stealth turbo setup.

As far as my comment on internals: yea, you'd do the same for boost. However, revving your engine a lot higher causes a LOT more damage than adding a lot of boost.

I like 3min3m2's idea... Just grab yourself a smallblock and car to put it in and then go to town.
