Automatic with mods vs. Manual stock
i have talked to numerous mechanics and other car enthusiasts.. some say manuals are way better... others actually prefer autos..
autos shift at redline when in WOT... they do weigh a bit more.. but u can always gut a few things and lose that extra weight... its like a 100 pounds or less IIRC...
10 less whp is not that noticeable.. yes you cant choose when to shift... but it still shifts on its own at redline when in WOT and it does so without having to release on the pedal..
still failing to see how autos are so much slower when the TC is compared...
saying... " O'z mize manualz woopsies ur auto and izz sooos much b3tterz!!" does not prove a point... sry

So why don't you go down to the track and prove to us that your car is so fast. Video and slips pls.
The main reason that automatics are slower than manuals and prefered by people that race their car at the track is due to the following.
Manuals have a much lower drivetrain power loss.
This refers the the power loss due to the transfer of energy from the engine all the way to the wheels.
Why does a manaul have a much lower drive train loss? Because it has a clutch and does not utlize fluid coupling as in the automatic transmissions. Hence why automatic transmissions are refered to as slushboxes.
Also, automatics are built for comfort. They are not designed for racing. Are there racing auto transmissions? Yes. See my guide on the automatic transmission build up as well as the IPT valve body install by someone (can't remember their name).
Most companies will design an auto transmission to provide smooth shifts for comfort. This is achieved by a slow shift to the next gear. While the tC actually has a decent auto transmission, it will still not shift like a manual.
And yes.... i'm well aware there are automatic supras and other automatic track cars. And my response to that is "they're not driving a tC" and "they're track car with the auto tranny probably experienced a hell of a build up."

the only reason you see track cars liek supras using a auto trans is because when your autoAND TURBO you can hold boost between shifts ....... they can also change out their dif to make their gearing shorter like that of a manual trans....
in the end this is a point less thread but ill lay it down like this
auto tc is slow due to its long fuel efficient smooth gearing not due to the hp loss
manual=win since we have such short gearing....which has well won me lots of races to higher hp cars =)
how do you think at the track a 400hp mustang with slicks n gears can still beat some kinda 600hp import....it goes through gears faster thus accelerating faster

boost with an auto tranny does let you hold boost between the shifts and is really nice.
But no one is going to be swapping the supra auto tranny in soon.
If only they built the tC auto tranny as well as the supra.
actually, I remember someone said they were going to call BoostLogic and inquire about some service for the tC autos.
boostlogic is the shop that does the supra automatic transmission builds. And they are very heavily built up.

who cares. i have an auto tc thats boosted and its fast enough for me. and i beat alot of stick cars from a dead stop race to about 70mph. from a roll, i get my ___ handed to me, but real racing on the track is from a dead stop, not a roll. street racing is for ricers.so who cares whats faster, do what you want and have fun with it.
