Default Doesn't want to shift into fourth when <40 degrees out

My auto tranny 2007 tC does not like to shift into fourth from third when <40 degrees out until two minutes after I start driving. Has anyone else had this problem? I get on a 65 mph road about 30seconds out of my apartment complex and the engine just revs to about 5000rpm in third and will not shift into fourth when it is around freezing or below. After a few minutes of driving it finally shifts into fourth, it seems like it takes way too long to warm up or something> Sorry if thsi makes no sense, i had too muchh jagermeister tonight !!!

TY for any suggestions!

Its supposed to do that. It keeps it in third intill the motor comes up to operating tempature.

Let it warm up for about a minute or two before you drive it.

Thats pretty normal, mine takes a moment to shift to 4th when its near freezing. Luckily, it isn't that cold here very often.

Most cars have a different shifting strategy when cold, to warm the car quicker, and reduce emissions. (At least thats the "official" reason, anyway.)

Thanks for all the replies! I was hoping that it was just the car trying to warm up but it was making me nervous because it sometimes stays in third for a couple minutes when it is super cold out...which is basically every day when you live in Buffalo! I usually wait at least one minute before driving away but sometimes I can't because i'm late for work or something.

Thanks again everyone! :D Try to stay warm!

if your also worried about the hi-rev. if you left off the gas, then hit it again, it will sometimes shift into the next gear. just a tip
