Yes, it will be minimal, but it will give a 15HP or so gain. And be a much more efficient safe setup.

plus if you ever decide to go turbo you would already have the emanage for that as well.

It SHOULD come with a base map, but you shouldnt even be worrying about that.
YOU CANNOT TUNE IT YOURSELF.
yes some people can, but with the questions you have asked, unfortunatly you will have to pay to have it tuned.

Greddy Emanage Ultimate has been good.

For actual ecus, AEM has a standalone as well.

ugh soo expensive.

ive been getting parts over the past half a year and im getting ready to bolt everything on during winter break so ive been looking to either get a piggyback or a standalone. but holy crap standalones are ridiculously expensive.

so are there things that the piggybacks cant do, that the standalones can?

Yes. A piggyback can only +/- fuel percentage to a certain degree. I dont remember exact numbers but they can only add up to a certain percent more fuel. They cant add an exact number like is best to do.

All a piggyback does is trick the system into thinking the o2 sensor is reading something it isnt. It thinks its reading something totally off the wall, and adjusts fuel, timing accodingly to get back to a safe running curve.

A standalone just sends exact numbers through the system and runs it the way you want.

Not to split hairs, but it's actually the MAF sensor signal that the piggyback intercepts. Tells the ECU there's either more or less air coming in so fuel is adjusted accordingly.

You can get excellent gains on N/A with engine management. There's a guy here on SL called KCTTC who's putting down almost 180whp with essentially bolt-ons and Camcon. Keep in mind a stock Supercharged only puts out 184whp.

The downside is $$ for dyno time for tuning. In my city the going rate for dyno tuning is $125/hour, and it can easily take 3 hours or more to tune properly across the band.

Add 10 to that and you're on the money.

Do you know if the guy you're talking about has a dyno? It's important to consider where you make the power in addition to the peak amount.

S/C Dyno for 201whp/183wtq
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...282&highlight=

Guess that proves the error between different dynos and different conditions.

So the $0 - $1500 or so extra (based on self install 05-06 or dealer installed 07-08 ) that the S/C would cost over the N/A setup you posted gets you 10-25whp depending on dyno, emissions legal, stock exhaust volume level, and warranty coverage. It's up to the buyer to look at their budget and aspirations to find out what is best for them.

^^ His dynos are uncorrected. First clue was 153whp stock with TRD axleback.

IMO the S/C is not worth the $$ when you can low-boost turbo for not much more and get significantly higher whp. Many who S/C wind up getting bolt-ons - header & exhaust - anyway. Then 9.5 pulleys, EMS, raise boost and retune, which of course will void the warranty.

I am impressed with the numbers which can be obtained N/A with EMS. A good tune will net as much whp, if not more, than most I/H/E combinations alone (before tuning).

The HP-to-$$ wild card is dyno time. If you can swing some free time on the dyno - or learn to tune yourself, your costs are much less. About $80/hour tuning DIY vs. $125/hr with a pro tuner in my area.
