High Mileage Engine Vibration
Hi,
My TC has about 126k miles on it and I wanted to get input on what the cause is for high mileage engine vibration. What is the origin of it? Is it fixable? I want it to sound and feel like new and I am also thinking about going boost pretty soon.
I particularly notice it when the AC is on. Is there some type of bearing that is just old and worn out? I don't want to bandaid the problem with better dampers or anything like that. I want to go straight to the problem. The vibration is pretty significant.
Also there is a sound coming from the engine. It sounds like an import with high mileage. I have heard the same sound from other high mileage toyotas and hondas.
What will make the car feel and sound newer again?
Thanks.

Does it sound like it is coming from the head? I know in many older high mileage imports, lifters can make quite a bit of noise.
For engine vibration, check all the engine mounts. If its anything like the xb2, there will be a motor mount at the very front of the engine. If the rubber mount is broken, it will vibrate quite a bit.

Past the 100k mark, that's when the mounts will typically start to show their wear. Had to replace the mounts on our Family's Van shortly after 100k and it idles noticeably quieter and smoother with the new mounts, so look into that.
