i am pretty positive that will have nothing to do with it, it has to do with the gearing of the transmission so adding hp will not effect the rpms you are cruising at.

That post I made was so long ago!I totally forgot about this thread. But very good discussion and pics. Thanks for further explaining this. And yeah RPM-to MPH i believe has more to do with gear ratios and not bolt on-hp.

The closest anyone ever got to a 6spd in a tC is a guy once got really close to swapping the transmission from a previous generation Corolla XRS into our car. I believe he totalled the tC before the project could be finished though.

But basically - no you can't just add a gear unless you have a completely redesigned transmission or find one from another car that could somehow be made to fit the tC. The amount of money involved wouldn't really be worth it unless you were fully capable of doing it all yourself.

v-train aside from gearing the another thing that'd slightly affect MPG is if you were to change the tire height/tire profile.

So has anyone taken the leap to install an AR motor, the 2.5L replacement to the 2AZ? It has a 6-speed.

I just wish somebody would make a XRS to TC tranny adapter.

Tc's need a 6th gear sooooo bad.
