I know this is an old thread - but - am I hearing the TWM stage 2 is the best - I've tried the TRD (not impressed) and the perrin - is not really adjustable - they both sat at stock hieght - and the perrin's throws are actually worse than the TRD

Im going to get the TWM stage 2 shifter. Who should I go with for the shifter and cable/cage bushings? What brands for the cable/cage bushings?

I did a search on a few pages of this post and didn't find the Megan Short Throw Shifter. So I'm just dropping in the info...

The Short Shifter is made with high strength billet steel and nickel plated for ultra low friction and corrosion resistance. The throw is reduced up to 40%, and shift **** height is reduced by 1 to 3 inches depending on the model. These shifters provide a more precise shift and allows for quicker shifting without drastically changing the overall driving experience. They have been designed specifically for the more aggressive tuner who demands the most extreme shifter in terms of both looks and performance.

Spec:

- Reduce at least 1" from the height of the stock shifter.

- Easy installation, reduce shift throw distance

- Each shifter comes with one year limited warranty

I found it at 59$ from dezod.com. I will be installing it this week. From reading other installs this one is a step ahead... since it includes the sealing rings that are such a pain to remove... I mean having to take a dremel to it!?

But there it is!

What I like about the doc I is that it is made from a stock shifter with the pivot ball relocated and the height reduction made. I have heard that some of the other aftermarket units have had issues with sloppy shifts due to the ball being the wrong size. Issues you wont find with a unit made from the stock shifter.

And you dont need a dremel to remove anything. When I got mine from Doc, he didnt have the push washers with them. I got a replacement for about 30 cents at True Value and it took about 30 seconds to remove the old one with a screwdriver.

We have sold over 200 Megan Racing. They sell extremely well. Some people use the cage risers and others do not.. Overall well worth it and looks great after install!

unfortunately broke my shifter handle and had to use the megan one, not that there is anything wrong with it, I just prefer the OBX one.

Im leaning towards the B&M SS. What do the bushings do anyway? does it make shift smooth? if so does the B&M come with bushings?

what im looking for pretty much is: not too much height drop, shorter shift between gears, and definitely want them to be smooth!

which ss do u guys suggest that have those ^ qualities for a good price?

Dr. Isotope GearSwitcher. Shortest throws, custom height, and lowest price. He uses the OEM shifter to make his short shifter, so they are smoother, more durable, and fit better than other aftermarket SS.

I have the B&M STS. THe bushings are there to keep things from moving when the driver is in the mood to shift hard. Dont know if it smooths the shifts but I guess it could b/c some of the parts are not all over the place. Yes, the B&M comes with bushings, some ppl call them cage risers. The B&M does drop the height a little, not very noticeable, but I have no regrets w/ it. It will seem somewhat stiff at first but give it some time and it will smoothen out.

I believe CC does, and so does Megan Racing. Both are cheaper than B&M but lower the height a lot more.

In order to reduce throw past a certain amount or to reduce throw without reducing overall height, you HAVE to use cage risers. The idea is to move the pivot ball up on the shifter, meaning the top of the shifter moves less when you shift. This effectively sets the shifter lower into the cage. At a point, it would hit the floor without cage risers.

Bushings are normally referring to cable bushings. For the doc iso, he makes replacements for the rubber cable bushings out of delrin. While this tranfers a little more vibration to the shifter (not really that noticeable when you grab it) it also makes for crisper shifts by taking the spongey feel out of them.
