Soooo I am trying to keep my swap as cheap as possible; What is the consensus on the eBay short shifters? Not the aluminum one but the stainless one

I'm looking to pick up a short shifter for my car. Either a TWM stage 2 or a BM. Do i need anything other than the basic "package"? What are the perks to getting a cage and bushings? I know the bushings supposidly make the shift feel stronger and not "mushy" But what are the other benefits? Thanks in advance

^ The main advantage of the Cable Bushings and the Base Bushings is to give more precision and solidity to the shifter. It does not affect the throw or height reduction, but it sure does improve quite a lot the feeling of the shifter! The action of the shifter will be much more positive and precise.

If you just want throw and height reduction, you can only get the short shifter, it's a nice upgrade in itself. You can change the bushings later on if you end up deciding the feel of the stock bushings is not to your liking anymore.

In stock and ready to ship:

Honestly I bought doc I's short shifter (with the bushings) but got lazy and didn't install em... I hated it. It felt so mushy I felt like it wasn't even worth it...I was disappointed and didn't think the bushings were gonna make a difference. Boy was I wrong...it made the shifts feel SO accurate. I would HIGHLY recommend them!

The bushings do make a great difference. The Cable Bushings will provide much more precision during shifting, the gate will be more accurate. The Base Bushings, on the other end, will help with the solidity of the shifter once it's in gear. It will be solidly in place rather than move around as much as it does with the stock rubber bushings.

A throw reduction of 45% or 50%, if these numbers are real which is doubtful, would put quite a bit of stress on the shifter cable, which is not what you want and could cause the shifter to feel very notchy.

We offer our Scion tC Stage 2 short shifter with a 35% throw reduction, which at the time we designed the short shifter proved to be the perfect throw reduction. It feels just correct, stays comfortable and does not place unwanted stress on the shifter cable.
