mine was pretty stiff after the install too. i took out the cable bushings and lubed them up and also lubed up all moving parts of the shifter. i felt like that made a big difference

Yup you'll get used to it. And honestly you'll NEVER want to drive a car w/o a short shifter again. It will be the first mod to my next car and the car after that.

Hint: Try buyin a super weighted ****. It will make throwing gears much easier

Baller, then get that engraved with the shift pattern. TWM makes some quality chit but it is expensive. You'll love that combo.

^^ Yea doc emails back very quickly during the weekdays.. I. Just installed my doc shifter with a 3" reduction.I purchased the cage and alll the bushings.Istalled everything 2day and im very pleased with the height reduction and the shorter throw. So I did some test runs and the shifts are very stiff and I gotta put a lot more muscle in than any other shifter I've used. ima double check everything 2 moro and see wuts up. Maybe I put the cage bushings in upside down or sumthing.lol I'm not complaining, I jus wanna know if any1 elses shifter is really stiff.. Thanks

I know this is an old post but I was wondering what broke and how hard were you actually shifting?

You took 3" of leverage off the shifter, so it will definitely be harder to shift. You just moved the fulcrum a good ways. I would never take that much off a tC shifter. I had doc make mine about 1.5" - 2" shorter than stock with a 50% reduction in throw. I would never want to go any shorter due to the increased effort.

^^ I've had my shifter for about a month and it has loosend significantly!! Shifts are Short and Crisp. Shift effort is a little sifffer but I've adjusted to it. Overall I love the feel.

^ I agree. It feels much better now. I don't know if it got loose or if I'm just used to it now.

Well I'm not gunna say other shifters are bad,but doc has the best IMO. You can get the full cage, risers, bushings and reduction of your choice. I emailed doc with "short throw shiifters" in the subject and got a reply in a couple hours. He was always quick 2 responed.Email him again and see.

MAke sure you are emailing him... for some reason people email ME asking for shifters because they somehow got my contact info from his site from when I was doing the led swaps there. And even stranger, it is an address I have not used in years. I took it down from his site and put my new one in while I was still doing led work.

If the email you sent went to engifineer@hotmail.com .... that is not him.. nor the address I use any more

And you shifter did not get looser... you got used to it. The shift ball, cage and cables are the same they were from the factory. Those are the only parts that could possibly make it "looser"... but only if they somehow wore.. which means something else is screwed up.

I have the two inch reduction. And I'm sure I'm just used to it. Anyone who drives my car notices the stiffness. But either way I prefer it over factory shifter now.

As far as I know doc I doesn't have any stock shifters to use for his short throw shifters. It seems like they'll be for sale on his site for a week before being sold out for months again.
