Hey guys
Sorry if this Questions sounds retarded, im someone who is really **** about my car.
This is my second car and i had a habit of changing my oil every 3000-4000 miles.
I use full synt oil and when i went to get my oil changed the mechanic said that for it being synt oil it got dirty quick. Its been about 3K to 4K since i last changed my oil.
Is this cause for concerne. Cause according to him synt oil should have gotten brown already? Is engine oil that dirties too quick a sign of engine trouble?

Brown doesn't mean necessary that its dirty, it however does have some dirt but the brown comes from the heat starting to break down the oil.

 

did you use an syntheic oil filter? that makes a difference ya know.

 

syn oil/ conventional oil/ any motor oil will come out looking dark and dirty after 3000miles. syn just claims to be able to run longer while its dirty looking.

Brown is the normal color you have to worry about black. That's what mine is like when I change it every 5000 miles.

 

Well on the dipstick it was dark brown.
I guess on the stick it was too little too tell
When it poured out it was black.
Is black syn oil a sign of engine trouble??

 

i sure hope not. i change my oil about every 3000 miles with mobil 1. it comes out black every time. i run my car hard at times but i baby it until its warm. i dont see any metal peices when i change my oil so i think i am safe.

 

^I've noticed the same thing with Mobil 1, changing it every 3-4k. I'm easy on my car except for the monthly trip to the dragstrip...
