but then mods like s-pipe and exhaust would net you more gains

so you might get 15whp from an exhaust once you have the supercharger. i can imagine a set of the cams that joe@dezod is getting + a ZPI head + intake manifold would make the car quite a contender.

ya but that would put the money somewhere around 4500 probably with install or more, that is still F'n expensive, i mean just throw a turbo on and you can get 250 whp for 3k

true the easiest option is to get the turbo, but then a lot of people have no idea how to work on thier turbo if somthing goes wrong, whereas you could take your supercharger in if something isn't right, plus when u go to get smogged you don't have to worry about finding a "good mechanic" or take the whole thing off get it smogged and then put it on again. its the legal way to make your car faster i guess. until greddy makes a carb kit but who knows about that. this is why i want the supercharger.

if you want to compare apples to apples, you have to be fair on both accounts. turbo's cost money to install just like superchargers.

p.s. grow up

Now, this is my first post. I've been looking around here for awhile now. Might be getting a Scion (have a lot of shopping to do in a few weeks, really want an eclipse GT.. that's neither here nor there)

The supercharger isn't that bad of a deal when you compare it to cars in it's class. The Redline/Cobalt SS.. Neon SRT4, RSX-2.. It puts the horses of the Scion tc right around all those cars for still a cheaper price.

I wish it gave more horses, but still. Think logically. Toyota won't take the chance of throwing out more because people would dtrap it on with out supporting mods and drive it to the ground. Hence the ~200 hp mark. Perfect competition if you ask me.

I think i'd rather get the turbo if i get a tc though.

I'm pretty sure it'll lay down more than the 200 Crank it's been advertised at. If you look at other similar supercharger systems for cars like the tC, they all lay down around 200whp. That's wishful thinking for me as well though, becuase the supercharger is going to be my option. The Coablt SS and the SRT4 are both underrated so hopefully the SC does put down more power then what everyone thinks. The Cobalt SS i've seen lay down anywhere from 197whp-215whp, on a roots blower too, instant power. The SRT4 i've seen lay down around 215whp-235whp. The SRT4, in my opinion, is the best bang for the buck, you can't buy anything in that price range with that much power. But, I hate the looks, damn Neon on steroids. The new Eclipse GT is a heavy car man, a little over 3500 lbs, but i'm sure Ripp Mods will offer some aftermarket support as they've previously done.

you can buy the supercharger for $3200 and install it yourself. that's not what you claimed.

SRT-4's advertised horsepower is estimated at the wheels. that's how they got around that

WOW im getting sick of people just arguing about turbo over SC, warinty this warinty that, 3k for 40hp and everything else. personally i am not willing to get a turbo kit that is when i do get my tC for the warinty itself. If your sick of these threads cause you dont think its worth the money (eventhough no one knows the offical price/power) then dont read /post in the SC threads, because we all know that you will get more power with a turbo.

other than that little rant that news sounds interesting cant wait to see the numbers

Well none of you may believe me, and from all the posts I've read on the topic, I can't blame you. But I got to be buddies with the manager at my local Scion dealership back before I even bought my tC. Since he is the manager he got to take a trip to Japan recently and toured the factories and met with execs, etc. Since he's sick of people like me asking about the SC all the time he made sure to ask about it while he was over there. He didn't give me a date, and at this point I wouldn't dare try to estimate one, but he did tell me that the supercharger TRD had been working on has been scrapped.

It would seem they started over with a new setup, I guess because they weren't satisfied with the power they were getting. The number he told me made my jaw drop, 245hp. This makes sense to me, because that's in the ballpark of what the SRT-4 makes (if memory serves me correctly), and I can't imagine that Toyota would want to take a backseat to Dodge when it comes to the sport compact market. Given this rumor is true, it also makes sense that it has been pushed back so many times. Maybe they kept trying to make more power and more power with the first system, couldn't, and so started all over again with a new system.

I can't guarantee that what I was told was true, but it was what I was told, and by a person I consider a friend. This is something I've known for a few months now, and have been hoping to see someone else come out with this info on the forums, but no one ever has, and I couldn't take it any longer.

So I ask you all, would a gain of 85hp be worth $3000?

If that proves to be true, then yes I would definitely get the supercharger. Otherwise, i've more or less lost my interest in it. Although I'll be curious to see a dyno of it, whenever it does finally come out...

that would be awsome... i would have been happy with 200-220hp but the thought of almost 250hp is amazing now i cant wait for the final product.

BTW your story seems legit to me eventhough others dont believe it

$3200 installed is the price installed (at least the most informed rumor and 85whp with a warranty would be worth it for me. considering i have header, soon full exhaust, plus a head and intake manifold in the works it would be much more.

if it makes that much hp, and is that same price (or in the ballpark), alot of companies making turbos will suffer (atleast i think they will).

i am most likly game for the sc, as long as i get around 200whp

I may be right there with you... that should be enough horsepower to quiet a lot of idiot ricers around here.

I had asked my Scion rep about the release of the SC. He stated it was supposed to come out this month as well. And the numbers were 205whp with a cost of about $3000-$3500 INSTALLED. now take that with a grain of salt, but I wouldnt hold my breath until something shows up, if at all.
