Default Testing MAF,o2 sensors if damaged? DIY?

sup guys, i've reading posts through the web and ive been reading that if you unplug your maf or front O2 sensor off, the ecu goes to open loop mode but clears out the CEL! does this apply to our scion's as well? i read some info on that at the corolla forums.

main question is, is it possible to test the MAF or o2 sensor if its damaged by unplugging each sensor at a time to see if CEL turns off? and unplugging both to see if the back o2 is damaged??? my CEL is on at the moment and at some point shuts off and on again. im not talking about the back o2 sensor, i think that sensor goes off regardless if its unplugged.

if you unplug them you most likely would have another code.. if you wanna clear the code, disconnect the battery and its gone.. when it turns on again then you have a problem, what kind of code do you have?

Probably the POS Weapon R intake. I had a problem where the hole for the MAF sensor was drilled way too big and it would run lean and die at idle. I went and purchased a thicker o-ring for the MAF so it sealed up the hole. It was fine after that. Maybe something to try.

where did you buy the O ring at? and what is it specifically called?

i think i noticed the O ring on my MAFsensor was a bit loose too. i mean the ring was not snuggly fit on the sensor like it suppose too.

I just bought an assorted O-ring kit from Autozone for $3.00. It's a good thing to have anyways. I ended up using one on my injector at a later date.

I would leave the o-ring that is on there now and add another to add thickness an seal the hole better. Even the smallest amount of air escaping will cause issues.

ok as of today, my CEL turned off again, but a few hours later i visited friend who had an O-Ring kit with assorted sizes. got the one that matched the size of the stock ring and my new ring is fatter than stocks. Note the CEL is still turned off.

This may solve my problem, i have not driven long enough yet but my car does not have minor hesitations anymore that i've noticed. now i can feel the parasitic drag that i always naturally feel with this car. i guess the old O ring stretched and worn itself out.

thanks for the help!
