AEM F/IC Setup
For the DIY tuners, this is what I use to tune my car:
-Wideband Gauge(AFR)
-Boost Gauge
-OBD Scanner (Fuel trims/timing/EGT/anything else you can think of...)
-Laptop (of course)
-AEMLog (VERY VERY Important!)
I suggest reading these for some decent info (I must have read each one of these 10 times or more

Get the Maximum Boost book by Corky Bell.
Get the Engine Management Advanced Tuning by Greg Banish.
And any other tuning book you can get your hands on.
READ over the AEM forums like crazy, not just the FIC topics but the EMS as well. Very good information to be had there. Again, reading and studying is key. I knew a lot about cars before, but now I know a helluva lot more just by reading.
The best thing would've been to do all this before getting a turbo. I did, and have NEVER had one bit of problems. As long as you have all the tools you need, you can get a pretty decent street tune. Of course it is very dangerous to tune on the street, but I go to very clear areas and log runs.
Again, watch your fuel trims, like aen said, they are the enemy. Make sure they stay between +/- 3%. Tune WOT to 11.1-11.4 and you should be good for AFR when trims do fluctuate, such as hot days.
Your timing map is the tricky one, and the most important when it comes to high RPM. The best way to tune this is on a dyno, period. But, there are ways to tune this without, but it is a little time consuming to set up.
Also you will want to set up AEMLog templates for the graph log. I can help whoever needs it. This is also at the AEM forums. Honestly I would not tune it yourself if you don't have a grasp on basic engine tuning or how turbos work. You are just asking for trouble, because if something does go wrong you will not know what happened, why it happened, and how to fix it. Then you will probably have a post on here labeled "MY ENGINE BLEW!!! HELP!!!". Just don't do it.
I am here to help, but not spoon feed. I had to figure this out all on my own, so anyone should be capable to do the same. Please read and do research on it, you will be doing yourself a huge favor.

I getting a wideband just after i get it tunned . He said it would be a good idea if I get the boost controller before I get it tunned . That boost controller just goes in between the vaccum line that goes to my wastegate right ?
What is the spring on the wastegate? You don't NEED a boost controller, unless your running MORE boost than your wastegate spring. Like someone said, the tuner is probably trying to milk you a little. I would just use the wastegate pressure spring for now until you get everything running right. The last thing you want to do is blow your motor because this NEEDED boost controller malfunctions. Make sure you have zero leaks. Then when you are comfortable with your setup, up the boost and retune.
I don't mean to sound mean, but you have a little ways to go before you start upping the boost. Has your tuner ever tuned an FIC? It isn't hard, but it sure seems that a lot of shops have problems with fuel trims. They claim that the computer "relearns" and back to the tuner you go, to spend more money. And they know it because they can tell if you are educated about this kind of stuff.
It takes a while to tune fuel trims because they constantly change while you drive. Make a little change here, watch trims, make another little change. I have a lot of time into tuning my car because I work about an hour from my house. So I can log to and from work.
Best of luck to ya man. Find a tuner that is at least familiar with the FIC, and better if they have tuned it on a TC.

It is a little different than mine, I am pulling a little bit more timing up top. O2 map looks about the same, MAF looks different, fuel is leaner than mine on bottom and richer up top. Have you dynoed yet?

Hi guys! i dont know if this is the right tread to ask this question, but here it is the deal.
I'm form Aruba and I'm the 2nd guy to build a scion tc turbo, and the only one running the AEM fic. my question is. do you think that an AEM EMS tuner will be abble to tune the FIC ???
i know the other guy is running an AEM EMS and makes allot of power.
