No it's not. It runs a low 15sec 1/4 mile. We are talking about the 2.0t here, not the 3.8 V6. SI runs a 14.7-15.1 depending on driver. And a tC can run 15.1-15.4 depending on driver. How you figure it's going to be faster than the next Gen tC that's coming with 180hp/170+tq and 6spd tranny when that cars has not numbers yet? Not to mention next gen tC has the same body dimensions but is like 1 inch wider. Don't see it beating the next gen tC sorry.
how I see it though is, the that genesis fails coz it supposed to perform better for a being in a "sports" class, turbo/rwd supposed to be performance oriented. for its class it doesnt compete very well.. new tc i dont think is stepping to up to be sports car, i think they still belong to economy coupe cars which being fast is not the top priority..

i have yet to drive the gen coupe, but this debate makes me wanna go test drive one just to see whats up!
yup thats so sad.. toyota is making cars that they feel would get them more profit.. they dont care if that some people are waiting for a new performance car from them to come out or to have something to counter sports cars of other makes..

you talkin about the GC? or my is300, cuz my is300 breaks 215/45s loose with absolutely no problem at all, while it cant hold a drift (mainly cuz im too chicken) its got more then enough power to power slide, do donuts, and burnouts, lol

Was not aware of that, so agreed, if it weighs that much then that's sh!++y. I don't like the new exterior as is, so I have the position that we should wait for a few to hit the junk yard and start swapping the new Gen motor into our current tCs....lol.
So, guess we shall see what the final numbers are. Chico, wasn't talking about your IS300.

I don't see the big deal with the trans. Just because it's a 6-speed, doesn't mean it has better gearing. The 6-speed gearing in the STI sucks compared to the 5-speed gearing in the WRX. 40mph in first and 75mph @ 3k RPM on the highway. I absolutely love it. First gear doesn't feel like the engine is going to implode when I hit 10mph, and it doesn't feel like I'm over revving when I'm cruising.

That's exactly my point. No one knows it's going to be better, no one knows if it's going to be worse. Everyone's getting wet in their panties over a 6-speed, when it could suck as much as the Si or STI 6-speeds.
^why does the si 6speed suck? my brothers 08 SI is a blast to drive, i love the tranny in that car, at least the gearing, its set perfectly so each gear change puts you back just above 6k where the fun is at, lol

Granted for the purists a lot of us are... going down that road may seem disappointing.... but the reality is in this age of when fuel prices do nothing but increase, a company probably could not sell a car aimed at the market it is if they threw fuel effiency out the window. Now if it was a car aimed at the wealthy slice of the market, that can afford their 8 mpg Lambos, etc. then it would be a completely different ball game.
Personally I think it is more of a challenge for a car company to design and produce a car that is fairly sporty, fun to drive, and gets fairly reasonable gas mileage then for them to design a car with priority numero uno being power/performance and not factor in giving a rat's @$$ about how fuel efficent it is... or the lack there of.
and just tossing this out there too... unless you're talking about a sixth gear in a true sports car that is on the higher end, Porsches, corvettes, etc... sixth gear on mainstream cars like ours generally tends to be like overdrive/highway crusing. So when you're on the highway rollin' 75 mph, you're not turning high rpms. So instead of pushing 4K rpms, you may only be turning 3K with that 6th gear.
