If you're really not mechanically incline, I would not touch the SC, its not necessary to remove to install a header, the only part that might be a pain is removing the nut that is right above the alternator, all the other ones are a easy.

its to keep heat away from the s/c shaft.

Its a heat wrap. Any performance shop and advance auto parts has it.
