Default Aftermarket head unit

Ladies and gentlemen, before I receive responses about using the search button and what not, I submit to you the search strings that I used for several hours prior to finally giving in and posting a new topic....

plug and play
head unit plug and play
plug and play head unit
head unit
aftermarket head unit
plug

Now as you can see by my search strings I am looking for a head unit that is essentially plug and play to the wire harness of our Scions. I am aware of the Eclipse brands as being plug and play, however, a majority of them is more than what I need. The CD3000 is a fair candidate, but I unaware as to how it mates with the factory harness. Is there a single din unit that is plug and play to our car? Plug and play is ideal because I have my stock HU located in the glove box, and would like to upgrade without having to deal with a large bundle of wiring. However if that is the only solution, I guess I will have to make do. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You're going to need a wiring harness. All aftermarket HUs require it if you don't want to hack into your cars harness (BAD IDEA). Most places that sell HUs include them free if you specify what car you have.

Yes,a harness will give you the "plug and play"

you just have to wire the harness to your radio. this is VERY easy to do (color coded on the harness ,no mistakes)

basically ...wire the harness to your radio, plug harness into factory harness on car...done

erhm... the eclipse AVNs are direct plug and play... and they are aftermarket.

i dunno where you can get a free harness.. but they aren't that expensive at all... like maybe $15-20.

So they are made specifically for the Toyota harness that our car uses? What does a guy rolling in a Mustang (or any different brand car) do if they want in on this HU?

As for free harnesses, re-read my post. It doesn't say it directly, but it can be inferred that you have to buy a HU to get a free harness.

Yeah, I was hoping to avoid more wiring behind that glove box. Between the extended harness and the PnP harness on my ECU, there will be a ton of wires back there.....hmmm I'll have to figure stuff out. Thanks guys.

The eclipse VIDEO units, not necessarily have to be avn, any VIDEO unit from eclipse is plug and play.

The cd3000 isn't plug and play, but it is a simple soldering process. I believe toyota owns eclipse, so the wiring is very much user friendly for the tC. I had a cd3000 and had it wired with the sw controls - no problem
