can the eclipse nav unit be used on the fly? or do you have to completely stop like with the pioneer? i know you can probably overide it either way but wondering if you could do it without the ghetto rig

Both units can be used on the fly without ghetto rigging them I never have to stop to input addresses or watch movies with my Pioneer D1

to use your steering wheel controls he had to use a device called "PAC". they are used on gm vehicles and from what i understand they made one for scion/toyota. not too long ago. heres the link below:

http://www.sjgreatdeals.com/mon125367.html

if you have no need for navigation buy a kenwood ddx 8017, 7015, 7017. thats what i did for 600 bucks too. i got mine off ebay too.

here the pic of the device need & part number + name MON125367 MONSTER CAR MPC FX IM-TOY1 Interface Module For 1998-2004 Toyota

damn right, that's the reason why NO HARNESS CONVERSION, and the steering wheel audio control works as champ (with NO EXTRA PART)

Pictures don't mean anything. I bet whoever installed the unit for you used something else to make the steering wheel buttons to work with the unit. Because I had it and it did not work by just pluging the factory harnesses into the back of the unit. But everything else worked, just no steering wheel control. I'm pretty sure everyone else who has the Eclipse units that have steering wheel controls will tell you the same damn thing . I don't know why you insist on arguing with me about this. Plain and simple. THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS DO NOT WORK WITHOUT SOMETHING EXTRA

Hey zy, check your invoice or call the place up and ask them if they used adapters to make the steering wheel volume controls work with the Eclipse HU. If you believe you're right and everyone else is wrong, Im sure you won't have a problem asking them.

I believe that both units are both pretty much the same quality. FYI The Pioneer D1 is also Made In Japan. Eclipse(Fujitsu Ten)/used by Toyotas but yet Pioneer has there name on the Scion headunits...

Alrite...
So the steering wheel controls work for both HU's, you just need to buy the adapter?

For the D1, if I want to watch DVD's on the fly, I have to give up the rear camera?
How does overrideing the hand brake work?

Nope you don't have to give up the rear camera. I have a rear camera hooked up to mine as well as a DVD player that I can watch while I drive. If you want details pm me and I'll give them to you.

ahhahahaha, I asked them right after my car was done , ahahahah !!!
$100 for labor and 2 more years warranty . Period. This is funny, why would they give me FREE part without charge ? This is SUPER AUTOBACS, a big a$$ and the only one store in America, not some small local shop, they'll rip your ballz off as much as they can. Don't even think about FREE parts from them, (SoCal guyz know what I'm talking about).

I also pulled the h/u out to run the RCAs (& stuff) AND to relocate the Nav antenna, the only thing I saw (different from the diagram) is 1 extra wire. THAT'S IT !!! Period.

BTW, if you have an aftermarket h/u on your '06 and you can't use the steering wheel audio control, hahahaha, too bad for you.

seriously!!! 100 dollars for a radio install and labor warranty hmmm. i cant imagine an installl costs that much. maybe it really cost (since i do my own installs) and im out of touch. i know the extra wire your talking about is probably the speed sense wire right?

hmmm i have to check with a couple of shops locally to see if its pre wired into the stock harness which i bet it is. is there any way you could take a pic of the install in the rear. especially the harness section because im really interested knowing what the difference is in the wiring.

thanks for the info.

Yes, I agreed. $100 too much for PLUG & PLAY (& drilling holes) installation, but I need the warranty (hahahha, of course for a reason).

The speed sense wire is NOT an extra wire, it's an optional, either you tap it to the speed pulse wire or NOT, the Nav still works, but once you lose GPS signal, it'll be messed up.

So, the speed sense wire is NOT considered EXTRA here.

I'll take some pix later !!!
