Default Weak power from the amp

I recently finished up installing my system and to be honest I wasn't too impressed. I was just thinking that maybe eD had been over hyped here on scionlife but then my buddy hooked up his sub(that I know hits very hard) to my amp and realized it was pushing out very little power. Now the guy that helped me wire everything up had put lots of systems in cars and seemed to know what he was doing, so my question is is there a common wiring problem that would make my amp put out very little power or should I be talking to eD about getting a new amp?

Thanks guys

What amplifier make and model do you have? What subwoofer make and model do you have? How are the voice coils wired? What is the final impedance to the amplifier? How did you adjust the gain control on the amplifier? Is this amplifier known to be in 100% working order?

are you using a factory headunit?
did you adjust gains?
whats your amp rated in RMS not max?
possible out of phase?

I'm using an eD nine.1 with two eD 13kv.3's. Dual 2 voice coils. I adjusted the gain by ear but the gain **** acts differently from all the other *****. I can spin it left or right and it doesn't have a stopping point like the other adjustments have.

I wired the subs in series/parallel and parallel/parallel not much difference in the two.

are you using a factory headunit? No I'm using a Pioneer DEH-P6900UB
did you adjust gains? as best as i could
whats your amp rated in RMS not max? 1200 x 1 @ 1Ohm
900 x 1 @ 2Ohm, 450 x 1 @4Ohm

possible out of phase? no idea what that means

was it used?
Brand new everything.

i think you probably have your gains set wrong, or your subs are wired incorrectly or wired at a very high impedance. if you have d2's the lowest you can wire them is 2ohm. also what kind of box are they in and is the box built to spec?

My guess is your gains are set wrong tho. you should never set your gains "by ear"

i should have just put this in one post.

and if your gains are set correctly you should have the first 1/3rd of the **** work and then the last 2/3rds will have little to no effect. mmmm thinking about it your gains might be set too low. about what level are they at

^^I used this to figure out how to wire my subs should I be using the one on the right or the one on the left?

They are in a sealed box with 1 cubic foot each.

Don't take this as a smart ___ remark but how else can you set gains except by ear? I really haven't heard of another way.

I saw in your profile that you have a nine.1 is does your gain **** spin around without a stopper anywhere?

edit: I've set the gain **** at just about every position i can think of and still no difference. Also the subs would hit pretty hard when one particular tone would come up in the song but then quiet back down for any other tones. Maybe that can help ya'll figure it out.

well first off if you have them wired down to .5 ohm that voids any warranty on the amp because the amp is only 1 ohm stable.

i don't use my gain **** i use my internal eq on my HU.

like i said call up eD and they'll help you.

i have all my gains set with a multimeter.

please just call them tho. they'll be able to help you more about your products than anyone on this forum can

Default weak power from amp.

If you are still running your stock pioneer head unit; then have you switched it from the TC setting to XA or XB? The last two add soo much more bass to the system. You can hardly tell your radio is on when set to TC. You just hold the SSP button down til your display shows one of the three, then turn the volume adjustment **** to change the setting. You are done when you get it set to the one you choose. I like XA because it is a concert hall setting and can still hear treble.

If you haven't already changed it, go ahead and turn the bass down to the -5 and maybe fader to the front 4. Even when I was running one L5 with 630W eclipse, run the bass in the negative. I am running the L5 and a Pioneer Premier 10" on the 630W and 2-15" kickers on a 2600W, can leave the bass on -5 and fader to the front at 5, still vibrating the quarter panels like a BBW doing arobics.
