How big of an enclosure are you willing to put in your car?
What kind of music do you like?
Are you into the boomy rap/hip-hop type or the tight rock bass?
I'm a fan of Kickers, they are great for the stuff I listen to, but I'll admit, they're not the absolute best if you like certain types of music...

this sub is for bass oriented music
the stock 6.5" pioneer doesn't hit the low frequencies that i like in that type of music, but it handles my metal music pretty well.

as far as enclosures go, i want to put in a quick disconnect (like you would find on a home stereo system) so i can pop it out if i have to use the area for storage (trunk) I'm not doing shallow but other than that anything shy of ported boxes or anything ridiculous in size

so u dont really need an ___ ton of rms handling on ur sub u should be able to get something super affordable

you could deff get a kenwood 12 kfc w3011 i think is the number it could handle the power that amp is putting out and would sound damn good in a sealed box i blew mine just bc i pushed it too hard @ 1200 watts but it could handle 400 rms all day

its a 4 ohm sub tho so keep that in mind i dont know what ohms u were running ur buddies speaker at off the amp but just something to keep in mind

wow.... anyways yea i looked at kenwoods, some people hate them, i'm happy with my home stereo personally, and some people love them *shrugs* haha, I'll prolly end up with either an Alpine or kenwood

but yea your right, i don't need a super expensive system or anything. i'm just curious about people's opinions

unfortunately you usually seem to get what you pay for so i'm skeptical about a lot of brands like Hifonics

EDIT: yea I just remembered its a single voice coil on that kenwood model, definitely into the dual voice :-) I'll shop around

Thats what I'm saying though, for his amp, those are the ones... lol it don't sound like he wants BIG boom either more sq in sealed. I know, I'm just trying to get him into RE.

Are you running RE as well?

eh i'll pass on the RE audio heh, not a huge fan especially if two of them total 350rms, there is a great saying, you get what you pay for, so i'm thinking the JL 12W1V2

12" 4-ohm subwoofer
metallic-finish polypropylene cone with nitrile-butylene rubber surround
power range: 300 watts RMS
peak power handling: 600 watts
frequency response: 22-200 Hz
sensitivity: 86.81 dB
top-mount depth: 5-1/8"
sealed box volume: 1.25 cubic feet
ported box volume: 1.75 cubic feet

its a reasonable price and I loved my old JL which I think was the same model, not sure. great sound

for the record I'm not a punch kind of guy, I like clean sounding bass not just a huge kick with tons of distortion (cough, ported box guys)

Don't get JL. If you want RE you can get a nice one for the price on ebay. eD is ok if your into SQ but not loudness as much but it will still pound. Get a high quality name brand (not kenwood either) Amp like Kicker Alpine AudioQue maybe Hifonics around 600wrms then get a 10" or maybe 12"(then you have to get a 750wrms amp) Kicker L7 08. It will pound and sound good. Also small boxes dont sound as good as 2.5+ ft^3

Power rating means nothing....just gotta know what you are doing.
Ported box is the way to go. Nothing like an output of a ported box with great low end extension, if its tuned for it.
