Also, the end-to-end experience with the iPod is better than any of the other players. I think that appeals to people as well.

Anyway, Apple has managed to keep the iPod at the top of the market, and they started cornering the flash market with the iPod shuffle. I'm sure there will always be other players out there, some of them might even do certain things better than the iPod. Apple has managed to put an entire package together that works and people like the way it works so they buy the iPod. There is a reason they continue to have 80%+ of the market and they sell out their stock at Christmas.

"One of." Not "The." There were several HD players already on the market when the iPod was introduced. The first HD-based player came on the market in 1998. There were several in the stores (as well as dozens of cheaper flash options -- not apples and oranges, just a smaller, cheaper alternative) by 2001.

How is the iPod the best to use in a car?
Look at my first post in this thread. I explained it there.

And in reply to mrtc, is the tC confirmed to have steering wheel stereo controls? I would prefer a jack in too. My PIE works great. The line level is a bit lower but not enough to worry me. I don't find it that hard to reach down to my player to control it. You have to take your eyes off the road regardless to see which music you want to listen to with any mp3 player or a cd.

Well if it IS true that the '06 TC will have steering wheel controls, the true question would be, "Can we wire the steering wheel to control an aftermarket head unit?" Anyone have a clue about that?

i was wondering if the steering wheel controls, new head unit design and the ipod feature are all aditional options, or do they come standard in the 2006? i ordered my tC saturday, but i have told them to cancel, because i want to wait for the option list, because i want the steering wheel controls, and if they arent stock, then i want to get that option. let me know what you guys think.. are they options or standard??? thanks!!

From what I've gathered, the steering wheel controls are standard. The iPod Headunit is the 6disc unit and the dock connector is in the center console area (where the second power adapter is in the current models).

The standard headunit is to get an 1/8th inch minijack on the headunit.

HOPEFULLY the iPod dock and headunit will be able to be fitted to a 2005.

I know my new Alpine CDA-9855 has a port in the back for steering wheel controls...

Think the '06 tC will be my future investment. Interesting... Nautical Blue? Wonder if that would be a mix between the IIP and AP

no, i ordered an 06. my dealer told me that the month for production is may. i was originally ordering an 05 but when we were ready to complete the order, the salesperson looked at the disrtibuter list, and she saw that 05s werent going to be made anymore because they are starting to make 06s, so thats what she ordered me. she told me that it was going to take 6-8 weeks to get the car, and thats exactly when i need it because i get my license in july. hope that answered your questions.

Default Ordering an 06

Hey, so what can we do to order an 06 from dealers?

I've tried asking one salesperson, "hey, I heard that the '06 tCs are going into production now in May, and that they should be available in June/July-ish. Can you confirm that for me, and if it's true, how can I order one?"

And he replied, "No, the '06's won't be available till next year."

me: "like, after January?"

salesperson: "yeah, around there."

So clearly, either he doesn't know, he doesn't want to help me with my mission, or he's just trying to get me to order an '05.

If mrc00l88's salesperson is right, then she can't even order 05s, what the heck is this dude talking about?!
Sooooo.... JUMBO, can you confirm that:

1) 06s can, in fact, be ordered now (not that I don't trust mrc00l88, but it'd be nice to hear directly from a scion manager, too) and that,

2) the 05s actually are *not* easy to order (or preferably impossible)?

Assuming that both of those are true, it doesn't seem like I'd want to be dealing with this particular salesperson anyway, but if I do run into a sales person who is just ignorant (vs. just wanting to steer me towards 05s) but who'd be willing to help me if he/she just knew how, is there some way or some place I can steer them to enlightenment (e.g., "Could you just do me a favor and call your distributor and check with them?") and thus the ability to help me order what I want?

(...which, by the way, of course, is the iPod dock, the steering wheel controls, and, while I'm at it...that phantom Supercharger!)

mrc00l88 might be telling the truth because I just called the customer service at scion.com and they told me that the release date for the Scion tC 2006 model would be around June/July. BUT...I also went to 3 dealerships here in the Los Angeles area and each dealership told me 3 different release dates...September, October & November. Seems pretty fishy to me maybe they just want me to buy a 2005 model. But anyways...just thought I'd share the information I got from a customer service from scion.com I really hope that it does come out around June/July so I can also preorder a tC.

Default Order changed to '06?

Hey all,
Well, I had ordered a bare bones black sand pearl tC over 8 weeks ago, and was getting pretty pi**ed off with the long wait. I went into the dealership today and my sales rep said that he thinks my order will probably be changed to an '06. When I asked about the price, he said "should be the same, I think." Funny thing is, he only said this AFTER I told him that the '06 line is going into production. I dunno whether to trust a dealership where I seem to know more than the salesperson (Charles Maund Toyota, Austin TX).
I know all this sounds iffy, but I'll know more on monday when the regional manager is in.

Dealers are full of crap and will say whatever they think they need to in order to get you into a car. 99% of cars begin the model year between August and October. Probably a good guess for the '06 tC. You'll know when the '06 is coming because it'll probably be advertised, especially if it has some of the rumored changes.
