395 on one tank, I'm actually shocked
I think people need to do what emiller does and stop posting this per "tank" stuff. That means nothing. A tank for one may be different for another since you dont know how much is left when you fill up. If you arent measuring how much it takes to fill and how long you drive you really dont know your mileage. I get about 300 miles on about 12.5 gallons every time driving mostly in the city. That is 24 mpg, which is almost in the middle of the city/hwy number. So it is getting just about what it says on the sticker. On the highway I get up to 375 for the same amount of fuel, thats 30 mpg, running 75 - 80 the whole way. I think people are analyzing a little too much now
If you are getting 250 miles for a 12.5 gallon fillup, then you are getting about 20 mpg, which I think is 2 less than what was on the sticker for city driving. If you want to get that upset because you are spending that extra $150 per year in gas than what you expected.. I just dont know what to tell you, except that they do state that the EPA estimates can and will be off either direction by a couple.
Another thing that will mess up your mileage is different types of gas and weather. Summer gas is not the same as winter gas and even different areas have different gas. You might get better mileage or worse mileage depending on where you go. The longer you track your mileage the more accurate of results you get. I was getting about 24 in the winter and Im up to about 30 in the last 2 months. I also have a different job so Im driving in different conditions. I have a 5 speed btw.
The way to get your gas mileage up is to use cruise control as much as possible and keep the car at the right speed where the car can stick to low rpm in a higher gear to maintain that speed.
In bumper to bumper traffic guestimate, turn cruise control on or stay at a constant slow speed.
Keeping your engine running at a constant low speed will let you get incredibly high gas mileage.
Keep the high revin and wheel squeeling for late night empty road driving

ive slowed down alot, use cruise control all the time. and stayed on one lane as much as possible.
last fill up did 24.9 =p its not 395miles but it works for me coz i load up with 91
around my area i have noticed with all my vehicles that when i fill up with either Chevron or 76, i do get somewhat better gas milage as compared to Citgo(7 11) or some off brand gas station. May have to do with gas stations watering their gas down or something to that effect. I do not know the reason but it does seem to have an effect. Yes Chevron is more expensive than most other places but i had a friend that used to work at the Chevron plant and unlike lots of other gas stations, the Techron is actually a + thing and is actually added into the gas. A lot of other gas stations do not add any detergents or additives to their gas which may have an effect on your milage. I am merely stating my findings. Wether they are true or not i do not know.
About the "drag" subject, think of a street bike. They are really fast at accelerating but over a certain MPH, they really cant go any faster without giving a lot of effort due to aerodynamics. Whereas it take a car a little longer to accelerate, but one you are going, it takes a lot less effort to go faster. So in theory, i find that having your windows down at 65mph is not going to make that much of a difference at all in gas milage or speed. As is stated before, these are my opinion/knowledge on things but please correct me if im wrong.

i've kept track of every tank of gas i've had in this car since i bought it back in september. weird yes, but i like to see the different mileages that i'm getting.
2 days ago i finished off my first full tank of gas since i installed my performance mods (I/H/E/pullies). My gas mileage has seen a dramatic increase. i drove around in city conditions the entire tank. my previous best all-city tank was just over 24 mpg. this last tank i went 331 miles in 11.747 gallons of gas. that equates to just over 28 mpg. I'm exstatic!

So what you're saying is that it's harder for a 300lb street bike with minimal wind resistance to accelerate at high speeds compared to a 3,000lb brick?
yes it is harder for a bike to accelerate compared to our cars at high high speeds. Think of the wind resistance and the drag of a speed bike compared to the tC.. Street bikes at high speeds have LOTS of wind resistance. I had to take this course about all this a year ago through my college and it shocked me at first but it really does make a lot of sense if you think about it.
I just finished my first full tank of gas after buying it almost 2 weeks ago. I hit 338 miles a little below the second to the last line before empty. I think i would of hit a good 370 or so before the gas light would turn on.
Just wanted to add some of my data..
06 5spd using 87 octane
4/26/06 - 309 miles/12.426 gallons/24.867 mpg..city/highway
5/04/06 - 315.8 miles/12.462 gallons/25.341 mpg..city/highway
5/09/06 - 344 miles/12.211 gallons/28.171 mpg..all highway
I know 3 logs isn't exactly sufficient, but I got this car a little over two months ago, and wasn't concerned about its mpg..I was busy learning how to drive stick lol

mixed city 50%/highway 50%, I usually get around 250-275 miles before light lits up. I always fill the tank to the max, too =(
I've checked tire pressure before, no go...should I be worry?
