All the low mpg complaint threads
Few corrections here. First, coasting is less gas hungry than engine braking. Common sense.. if the engine is working as opposed to when it isn't, it's using more gas.
Second, the "mobile1" crap.. unless you're talking about something else, and I can't imagine what, Mobile1 /is/ syntheic.
Third, the new Civic's (comparable to our tC's) get 140hp with the new SI getting 198. Only the old models got 128hp (for example the '97 EX I just sold). Still, the point is valid, we have more hp than the base Civics and a bigger engine so don't expect better gas mileage.

When you let off the throttle, the engine turns due to the wheels. Fuel injectors don't come into play unless you're adding throttle or have fallen below about 1.0k-1.5k. This is true for most manual fuel-injected cars today.
We already had a lengthy thread on this, so I don't really want to go through it again.

You realize EPA gas mileage states highway cruising is at 60 mph constant, right? Not many people meet that requirement.
As for the fella getting 17 miles to the gallon, you're not driving like an upstanding Citizen. ;) Toyota's not going to find anything wrong with your car.
