ALL NEW 2011 Scion tC coming Sept. 2010
I know, right? They destroyed the one car that defined their brand in it's inception, the xB1, that's the car they should have kept without a doubt, it was a huge risk ridding themselves of that car and form factor. I do not believe they succeeded in any way. The xA was however vastly improved by becoming the xD in my opinion, but I'm still not a fan of either.
The xB1 has it's place in my heart as something definitively Scion, the xA, xD and xB2 just feel like cars holding on to the success of the xB1 and the tC.
They already seem to be messing it up with the downgraded interior so far in these images, I hope the styling isn't all messed up and weird like the 2011 xB2, which is a hideous monstrosity, it's sad seeing this ship sink.. fail boat, all aboard...
I hope the new tC redeems the brand some how, but I'm not too incredibly excited to see what Scion, a company that has failed to produce refreshed and attractive cars thinks is better than their star car, the tC.
Of the stuff I've seen so far in the teasers:
I like the traction control
the 'improved' stereo so far
the fact that they are keeping the panoramic moon roof
the new wheels look great too
but the side profile of that headlight is weird and so is are the fugly cheap ***** for the HVAC compared to our nice button system, it was obvious the tC was the highest end car of the bunch when it was released with things like mirror mounted turn signals, power above double digits and a much improved interior, including a leather wrapped steering wheel and auto up/down windows on both sides, the moon roof, the HVAC controls, and little things like that. I thought the Fuse concept was hideous, same as I thought the t2B was hideous, they brought the t2B to market.. and it sounds like the Fuse is coming too... sigh.
I hate that it's too late for this.. ugh.. I suspect they'll come even before the new car is launched.. if the car is dramatically different from the current tC, I can only hope ScionLife splits it into tC1 and tC2.

And if that Rav4, xD, etc hvac controls goes in there, forget it, not upscale NOR unique at all. This part sharing has reached an epidemic level now. It's one thing to save money, sure I understand that, but at the cost of losing a unique car? You part share where the consumer cannot see it!
I am starting to think that Jim Farley who was Scion's head, who moved to Ford, is why the Fiesta and Focus are starting to look a lot like where Scion was headed! He was the reason they were unique and the direction they were going was good. It's almost like you want to see where Scion WAS supposed to go, look to Farley's new company, Ford. Seriously.
If you zoom in and look at the tires, I can make out that they are Toyo Proxes A20 tires. Doing a search I found this PR release from modern tiredealer about the A20. makes me wonder if the new tC might not be a hybrid!
Since this tire is used on both the Prius, Camry Hybrid and Highlander Hybrid. http://www.moderntiredealer.com/News...w-Prius-V.aspx
"July 08, 2009
Toyota picks Toyo Proxes A20 for new Prius V
The Toyo Proxes A20 has been selected to be original equipment on the premium model 2010 Toyota Prius V.
The all-season, eco-friendly tire has been engineered for low rolling resistance while maintaining wet and dry braking peformance, say Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. officials."
The car will use size P215/45R17 87V tires. Toyo also has fitments on other Toyota vehicles, including the Camry and Highlander Hybrid.
Eh, they can keep the tC as their sports coupe and then release that FT-CH concept as a hybrid Scion. Just because the Scion line is made up of cheaper cars doesn't mean the hybrids have to fit in there nicely too. I'd take a $20k Scion hybrid that's nice and customizable.
Also the FT-CH has an interesting design.. and if they turn it into another Prius like I heard they might that will just suck all the fun out of it. Something that doesn't generally happen with Scions

It won't have a platform by itself, meaning it would have to share a platform with a gasoline-only model.
That's the downside, the cost would be much higher than the target price for Scion, I believe hybrids must come down drastically before we ever see a Scion branded hybrid.
The positive, it that it shows college aged, young adults that thinking green isn't something that only Green Peace does. It also would show that driving a hybrid doesn't necessarily have to sacrifice the pleasure of driving. The increased fuel economy would also be a plus, making those 5 hour drives from campus to home much more efficient. Something a little extra for Mommy and Daddy to think about.
To the performance junkie, those ideas would likely be gone until we start to see some turbocharged hybrids making the type of power their gasoline-only other half makes.
if they were gonna put a hybrid scion out it would just be the hybrid version of the iQ. but us here in the states don't get the hybrid engine options like they do elsewhere, we get the bigger engine with more HP

I just think it's funny that people think it'll look like the fuse... My money's on it looking way more like the first tC (with different, and sharper, lines here and there) than anything like the fuse.
