Default Buying Question for New Jersey tC Drivers

I went to the toyota/scion dealership in eatontown (galaxy toyota & scion) to check out the tC today. It was a '07 tC 5-speed with only iPod connectivity (is the iPod connectivity standard or an optional accessory?) Anyways, I test drove it liked it a lot.
Price...the sticker price is 17,240. with 7% tax, that comes out to be 18,446.80. the saleslady wrote a final price of 19,102 with all the fees. That's $655.20 in fees!!!! WTF?!? This is my first time buying a car and my question is: are the fees THAT much?
About me: I'm 20/male with a 730+ credit score. I am able to put down 9K as my down payment.
any NJ tC owners want to post their sticker and the final price?
Thanks a lot.

PS...I don't even think a '08 tC bone stock costs as much as 19,102. anyone wanna confirm that?

I'm not from NJ, but...I can give you a little input. I'm from Il by the way and I bought 07 tC bone stock at

retail.............................$16,980.00
Doc Fee..........................$58.48.00
Sales Tax...6.25%.........$1,004.00
License & Title..................$105.00
Equals.........................._____________
My price.........................$18,147.48

Note: I didnt need a new license plate. I was able to transfer mine from my old car I traded in ('97 Chevy Astro, w00t!) So that saves some cash.

amd iPod connectivity is with the upgraded pioneer stereo I beleive. So that might be where you're getting the extra priceyness...Other than that...$600 in fees sounds high. I dont really know what NJ is like though.

Hope that helped!

Thanks for the quick reply. Around 150 in fees sound reasonable to me. 655 is just way too much.
the pure pricing sounds like a good idea but has anyone ever bought a Scion at out the door price? '08 models just came out and I'm pretty sure the dealerships are trying to push the '07 off their lot. I'm gonna propose my offer of 18K as the out the door price tomorrow.

The iPod system is optional on the 2007 and it has been discontinued so there are not many out there.

If you are getting new plates in NJ, you have to get a four year registration which is about $257. Doc fees depend on the dealership; mine is $136.70 and then the 7% sales tax

If you have any specific questions, shoot me a pm.

NJ isn't too bad with fees......but that does sound a little high....I'd have to check to see what I paid for in fees (I was on PCS leave from Germany when I bought my car in Jersey then drove it to VA) also don't be suprised if ur payin a little more cause this is the first car you're buyin from what I read (if I read it right) But anyways I'll try and check it before I get to work today and let you know what I paid.... and also like one of the posts earlier said...u can save some $ if they'll let you transfer plates and such......hope this helps a little and good luck with ur pricing

hhhmmmm, using the selling price you mentioned (17,240.), I'm getting $18,840.50 as the out the door number (1206.80 - NJ sales tax, 257 - 4 year NJ tag, 136.70 -doc fee at the store I'm at).
Seems that the varible is the doc fee, you just may want to shop around to see who has the most reasonable one.

for that kind of price, I might as well just get an '08.

9,000 down payment and the monthly payment was going to be 195 for 60 months with 7.1% interest. another thing that bothered me was the saleslady told me I was a 730+ but I can only get 7.1% APR financing instead of 6.7% as stated on the Scion website for people with excellent credit.

The payment is great. The scion website says one thing and its another when you get there, the only thing that does not change its the price. My mom has a credit score like yours and, the payment with my score was only $4 more than hers. I took out the car with my credit.
