I'll be selling my modded out '93 celica and replacing it with either a tC or one of the above mentioned cars.
a)I highly recommend the tC, I have an 07 and love it.

b)I think the tC looks better then all of the others. I would never buy a hyundai because I think they are not built well. The eclipse with the V6 is more expensive (pretty sure like 25k or more) and motor trend only got 18mpg in their tests. I think the lancer is ugly. tC basically uses the camry motor that has been proven for years and Toyota has been in the top 5 most reliable cars for I don't know how many years in a row.

c) Short shifter stock is pretty tall and long throws, K&N filter helped my gas mileage.

After market support for the tC is strong.

Good luck with your decision!

I would surely get another tC if I was looking to spend the same amount of $$. 98% of the people on this form have had a blast modding their cars and toyota has done a good job of putting together a quality car (for what you are paying for).

If you want to jump another 5-10k you then are getting into a lot more $$.

The tC is a car that if you want to ever get a turbo or the s/c you will be adding hp and it will be more fun to drive. For $2,100 you can get the s/c which just dropped in price by a grand. It will cost you $500-900 installation and you will have a quicker car. If you go for a turbo you will be spending around 6k and will have a lot faster car but might run into warranty issues.

Anyway - i have a lot more to say but ill let others post up. good luck

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

b) How does the tC stack up to the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Mitsubishi Lancer, and Hyundai Tiburon? (all similar price range)
First only the hyundai and kia are in the same class as the SCION. Obviously steer clear from any of those three.
The 2008 eclipse is ok if you get the GT
The Lancer is a good choice if you get the EVO IX or X

c) Are there any upgrades that you feel are NECESSARY right off the bat?

Are you serious!??? You're looking at a $16k car. Do you SERIOUSLY think that it's possible that its acceptable right out of the box!? Or even with MAJOR modification!?

Any other thoughts ?

I'll be selling my modded out '93 celica and replacing it with either a tC or one of the above mentioned cars.

You might be better off keeping your celica unless it's in horrible running condition. If I could save you time, money and headaches I'd like to help steer you clear away from the TC or any SCION for that matter. GL with your choice. Hopefully ill be able to make a difference to at least one person thinking of getting this turd-mobile.

Excuse me? i don't know what bad experiences you had with the tc, but i think its just wrong to compare a hyundai or a kia with a Toyota.

redwing634 i would go for the tc, its the best out of the three mentioned.

thanks, I'm very strongly leaning toward getting a tC. Im going to test drive a 2007 and 2008 most likely sometime within the next couple weeks. As of now I'm probably looking to get a 2007 though.

At the price .. I would get the 2007 - There are a lot of options depending on what you want to do in the future of the car. I have the limited slip and new cluth ...the tranmission drives better then stock and can handle twice the torque im giving it. The light flywheel adds to the car since it takes less to get it in motion. If you changed your cluth you would do that in pair.

I would like to hear that person who said NOT ... a followup post would be nice

Excuse me? Did you just say dont compare hyundai or kia with toyota? Who did that? I'd recommend toyotas but we're talking about the cheap undercut grade here. Yup the SCION.

trying to insinuate that scions are the same as toyotas, might as well just jump the whole toyota line and say that SCIONS are lexus'

I was going to get a 2007 Lancer, but the dealership was ripping me off bad!

I love the look of the car. Very aggressive, and the test drive was pretty nice. It had stiffer suspension (the GTS) and the shifting was smooth. The sound package was awesome. All in all, it was a great car.

I would of had it, but again..... Stupid dealerships.

I bought the 08 Scion tC about 2 weeks ago without planning on it. All I know was I was signing papers and when I was driving off, I just thought to my self.

"WTF did I just do?!"

Its growing on me slowly, I still hate the HUGE body roll though. That and the fact that everyone and their mother has one.

Step one, must get springs,
Two, try to make it "mine" unique. and all that.

IMHO I brought my Tc about a month and a half ago. And I dont regret getting it. Like alot of people have said, the car is fun to drive. Its easy to mod and work on. It has a very reliable engine, that has been tried and tested, and an engine that can be modded for more power.
Wonslowtc you must've been denied credit by the banks when you went to get your Tc and now your just bitter, ignorance is bliss. Plus if you hate the scion/Toyota brand......Then why are you still on this forum????

A) I have driven or owned most import cars, I love my scion. Enough Said
B) Mitsubishi = DSM = Break Downs ( had to replace the transmission 4 times in a year), Lancer's are nice esp. the EVO but thats costly. And Hyundai = Underpowered and we know those Koreans take corners! (im Korean!) lol
C) Thats up to you, I haven't done anything yet cause i just moved here but. most of my mods are gonna be engine related/.

GET A tC!!! Oh, but dont do the same mistake I did, get the manual trany. That's the only thing I regret. And I love the dirty a*s looks tiburon drivers give cause they know the tC looks a thousand times better. But good luck on whatever you pick :p
