thats insane.

there are some gears missing tho. I doubt it was caused by something on the road.

there should be 4 gears within the differential casing. obviously from the picture 2 are missing. those 2 should be in between the 2 gears as you see here.

it probably came apart inside from abuse and threw gears around from centrifugal force.

 

you have a point there, but those other 2 gears is commonly held in place with a shaft connected to the diff casing

i dont know anything about the tC but by lookin at the second picture, the tranny looks like its well protected by the cross member. and it appears to have no undercarriage damage ( scrapes, deformity, & etc).
im convinced this tranny was abused. definitely not a failure of the platform.

 

interesting. when i was working on my car a while back, i looked at my tranny and it looked like it had hairline cracks on it. should i be worried? it's a 5 speed

I'm thinking he maybe tried to shift into first at highway speeds. When it didn't go easily, he forced it. I read on here a few months back of something similar happening when a member's friend tried to shift into first at 70.

 

shifting first in a 70mph...lol...
