Florida is the Sunshine State. That figures. Florida has the most lenient tint laws. I think you can get away with about 15% to 5% in Florida. California is the Golden State, but we aren't allowed to have tint to keep out those golden rays. In California, any tint on the sides is illegal.

I always get those two state mottos confused.

My point is still valid though. It's still lame.

Totally lame. I can drive better with tinted windows. It reduces the glare from the bright sun and creates a more comfortable environment inside. When I had 18% all around I was getting harassed by the cops all the time. I had some good runs, but then I had a really bad run where I got pulled over 4 times in one week for tint. Two of those incidents were on the same day! I got a ticket that week, but I continued to get pulled over after that. The nice thing about already having a ticket is that you can just show the ticket next time when you get pulled over and the cops will leave you alone.

I think it's lame that they have no logical excuse for making front window tint illegal other than they 'want to.'

The only 'excuse' I've ever heard was that they needed to be able to see into your car. But, if you can have limo tint in back....and the cops pull you over from behind...then you could have an AK-47 in your hands and they wouldn't know until they got up to your nice clear front windows....and by then it's too late.

So stupid.

I got pulled over on 1/20 for my modified exhaust. I bought the car like this from the dealer. It also has a cold air intake, and no front plate. The dealership let me leave like this, and certified my car with the 7 year warranty.

I got the dreaded white sticker on the back and had to make an appointment to get it checked out and the soonest appointment they could give me was FEBRUARY 7TH. I'm beyond ____ed. Is there anything I can do before then to be able to drive my car? What will happen if I get pulled over again for the same thing before getting it fixed? I'm so desperate I debated removing the sticker, going to the police station out here and saying there never WAS a sticker.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Two months ago i got a fix it ticket for my TINT. So i went and took off my tint and have them check it and on the same day i put my tint back on. But i was wondering, since they don't really check the vin number or anything like that, has anyone ever tried switching license plate to another TC and bring it in for them to sign off the fix it ticket?

go to an eye doctor or an eye specialist and tell em youve got a problem. Or better yet, if you know an eye doctor have them write you a prescription. Im not sure whats its called, but if you have an eye condition than you can legaly have tint on any of the windows.

Everyone says that, no one ever does it. Too much risk. Getting caught would be a serious charge.

Nope, not in California. That would be too easy. California does not allow for medical exemptions.

Im not gonna argue like everyone else in this thread. I think that most the California laws were justly formed. (Especially the emmision ones) But that statement is bullisht. Im not raggin on you, but rather the California law makers. If someone has a disability then they should be able to have special treatment. Thats like not giving handicapped people parking spaces closer or people with wheelchairs ramps. What if you had a condition that was so bad you werent able to drive? And what it you had to get your tint removed, and ended up getting in an accident. Id say thats prejudice...just my thoughts though...

I agree. I've been down this avenue with the DMV already, but they won't budge. I don't have an actual medical condition, but I do have a high sensitivity to bright light, which is why I always have and always will tint the windshield and side windows of any car I own. Seriously, it is a million times easier on my eyes when I have some kind of screen between me and the bright California sun. Much safer than squinting all the time.

The DMV told me that there is a slight exception to the law, but it's pretty worthless as far as I am concerned. If you can get a doctor's note of some kind, then you are entitled to put "removable" tint on the side windows only, and this can only be used during daylight hours and must be removed at night. The law doesn't allow anything to be placed on the windshield, which is where my eyes are facing 98% of the time, and the whole idea of "removable" tint is pretty lame. It's the stuff that uses no adhesive and clings to the glass with static. Good luck lining that up correctly each morning and keeping it free from creases and fingerprints.

As far as I am concerned, breaking this unjust law is safer than obeying it.

^thats pretty much what i was getting at.
theyre making laws that are making the roads unsafer.
While i understand that they may realize that it would be to easy for ppl who dont have the condition to work around the law, that is a serious disadvantage to the people who actually have the condition. Now that would be a court case worth fighting, unlike the earlier ones about turbos and emmisions.

It would be interesting to see how such a case would turn out. I got ticketed in the past and I just removed the tint, had the car inspected, and replaced the tint on the same day. I never considered fighting it because I was sure I would lose. The law is the law, whether it's fair or not.

that's the way illinois is. i know around here all the cars of the "ghetto" are blacked out all the way around, but if i were to even think of putting side window tint on i would get pulled over in a heartbeat.

You know. I've never ever heard of anyone here getting a fix it ticket. Our cops don't give a damn and we also don't have any emmisions laws. As much as I don't like our cops, they don't keep up on any after market parts. I saw a guy with an old el camino that was glowing like the sun and had the craziest breather coming out of the hood. Cops just laughed and watched him pass. Things are pretty cool here..

i feel sorry for you guys because for me, being in the military , if i get stationed in sandiego or anywhere in cali, i still have my car registered in pa along with a pa license so i can pretty do whatever i want to my tc and the cops cant do anything about it.. even if they wanted to, they cant enforce laws of another state, which is why they can only look and whine about it. GOD I LOVE The military laws!!!

im in IL and i had 5% rear and 35% front tint on my cadillac and have the same in my tC. Never got pulled over for that. And ive gotten pulled over for a slew of other things and the tint was never even mentioned by anyone. I think it just depends on what town you live in.

I know what you mean. My sister has super dark tint on her truck. She's registered in New mexico, but lives in Virginia and the cops can't do anything about it.
