Default Clarification

Can someone clarify for me if there are any advantages to getting a 5-sp auto over a 5-sp manual?

The comfort of sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic without having to shift just to move up a foot... I don't think there's going to be a Significant difference between a 4 or 5-spd auto, so really, it's personal preference.

What is the real truth? I've heard different things from different Scion dealers saying that there will be 2 new colors to the xB.

This isn't the first time I've heard of new xB colors either.

What's the real deal? New colors or not?

JUMBO did have proof in there. Did you even read his last post? It shows the actual build sheets. For those of you that do not know, once they are distributed they will not change. Do you really think that he is making up a story to start some s%*& on Scionlife? I do not think he is the type of person to just try to start a debate.

The 06 tC began production on 5/16, but Toyota very well may hold on to them until 05 levels go low enough. Since there will be no factory incentives on the 05 tCs, it is up to individual dealer to sell their 05 stock.

We are still a month and a half out on production start on the xA and B.

- JBHS98: I don't have a bad opinion about your dealership. She was just a little over-zealous, I think. I understand what you are saying about some right info, but mostly wrong info. Many times, people who DON'T know don't know enough to KNOW that they don't know. I think. Anyhow, no harm done, and I'm trying to keep this on topic.

- To reiterate - NO COLOR CHANGES ON THE XB. The production order shows identical colors as the 05 production order.

Hope this helps. LATER

i hope they offer an option later on to upgrade the current tC to a 5sp auto. That would be awesome.

Hey thats great and all about a 5 speed AT for the tC
but can you imagine how much the tC is now going to cost?

Kids in college wont be able to afford it!
My guess is the only reason for a 5 spd AT on the tC
is to compete w/ the Cobalt SS. Which infact can SMOKE
a 5 spd tC(stock).

Im sorry but I cant see alot of 2006 5 spd AT tC's selling
to a bunch of 20 somethings, which was the target age for
Scion to begin with! The price will be too high! It will be in the same
price range as the Cobalt SS. Mid to Upper $20,000

I would rather see a 6 spd Manual in 2006, and completely
do away with AUTOMATIC Tranmissions

MID TO UPPER $20K?!? Where in the world did you come up with that?!? I would be surprised if the price went up a TOTAL of $200. And two things:

- We do not improve our vehicles to answer anything from Chevy. The Cobalt is STILL a Cavalier, and the tC is STILL the better car, regardless of price.

- The reason for the change was because we do not use that tranny on the Camry anymore, so production costs will actually REDUCE with the 5-speed.

And Sunshine, you don't have to wait until 2006 to get one. Just read back a few posts and you'll see that they will be here within a month or two.

Have a great day!

And thanks for the kind words, Amerhicka!

The real comparison is between a 4spd auto and a 5 spd auto. The 5 spd SHOULD accelerate faster if they do it right. I personally am a 5spd manual person. I cant imagine mine being auto. And driving in traffic is not an issue if you have been driving a manual for a long time. I do not even notice it during rush hour (and traffic can suck pretty bad in the twin cities) and do not have to shift repeatedly. But, like I said, it is personal preference.

Now, if they gave us a 5spd auto with a stall in it... then it would be pretty competitive on a racing standpoint, but dont plan on that happening

Terrible comparison. First, the cobalt SS is SUPERCHARGED. That is why it can smoke a tC, not because of the tranny. If the supercharger was out on the tC they would be almost dead even (given the info we have heard on the SC), except for the reliability issue... in which the tC is going to excel hands down if it follows toyotas rep at all.

Second, the price of the Cobalt SS is due to the SUPERCHARGER, not the tranny. I would expect MAYBE a few hundered bucks more if anything. That comparison is about as valid as saying if we had the same type of tranny as a solara that our car would cost as much.

Last, I too would love to see a 6 spd manual... but why do away with autos? Some people do not like manuals and would not purchase the tC if that was their only choice. Scion would be stupid as hell to not offer an auto.

Why is it a terrible comparison?
If Im not mistaken the tC isnt supposed to be SUPERCHARGED as well!??

Yeah, hmm TRD way to go, now July is the release date.

To the guy who replied to my mid to upper $20K
if the new 06 tC does come with a supercharger(option)
and you get a buncha goodies added onto your car
you can easily look at mid $20K

But we'll see the price when it finally comes out

Why do away with autos? the tC is a sports car regaurdless
to what anyone says. Look at the Evo 8 and Evo MR, and the STi. Those cars dont even have the option for an automatic. Yes they are known to be rally/race cars, but they are still considered sports cars. Maybe not do away with the AT competely, maybe do some kind of sportronic/tiptronic/manumatic transmission

The tC is not even a sports coupe, it is a compact. I agree it has huge potential, and i would not consider an auto for mine, but this car is not designed to be "sports car" per se, which is why they are offering the auto.

Yes the tC is SUPPOSED to have an available supercharger, but it is not out yet, so you cant compare a non-SC car with a SC one.

You first complained that if the price was around 20k it would be too expensive. But now you are saying with the sc it could be that expensive. Well, if the SC were out right now it would bring the price to around 20k, so in that scenario nothing would change.

The thing that we are all picking on is that your comparisons are not clear and do not compare apples to apples

Not a fan of that color at all. I miss the pearl. If my IIP ever starts chipping like others have had, I will almost definitly get it repainted as close to the same color as possible. I love my IIP!

Hey JUMBO,

Do build sheets typically show things like steering wheel audio controls? if so, do the build sheets for the 2006 tC confirm that there will in fact be steering wheel audio controls and/or some kind of audio jack in the center console (I'm planning on the 6-disc changer for the iPod jack, but I figured since that's an upgrade accessory, it probably wouldn't be on these build sheets)?

Thanks!

Oooh, and on a side note, I did finally find a dealer who could take an '06 order, but I'm suddenly not confident that that'll do me much good. See https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...=798764#798764 for details on that.
