Ok, so, I've noticed that my anti-freeze keeps getting used up really quick... I checked both the main radiator hose and the overflow hose, both are fine... I was worried at first that the blue clamp cover might be restricting motion of the clamp itself, but then I remembered I could bend the cover with my hands but needed all my strength and pliers to compress the clamp itself, so I'm pretty sure the clamp is secure. All the hose are tight and I see no leaks on my driveway.

To give you an idea, it was full Sunday and is 1/4 full as of now.

Anyway know? I'm thinking I might be putting too much water for the 50/50 solution... but other than that, I don't know. She runs ok so long as I keep her filled up...

 

dealer. take it there. is there a pink crust on the top of the overflow tank around the lid or is it clean? if so you may have a stuck thermostat but it appears at the level you are losing coolant, you have a leak; i'm sure you're aware that antifreeze (and the associated water mixed with it) is not something you "use up" because it is a sealed system. if the integrity of the system breaks down in some way the water can escape in the form of steam and both the water and antifreeze can escape as a liquid through a leak. this is a warranty issue and should not be happening.

take off the oil filler cap. is there any liquidy white residue on the underside of the cap? that would not be good. just get it in to be looked at.

 

Yeah, my V8 days make me think of a blown head gasket where the antifreeze is getting into the oil or combustion chamber but Im not sure if any antifreeze goes into the tC's head. best to check just to make sure...is there by chance a lot of white smoke out the tailpipe?

 

Check your oil using the dipstick. If it looks like chocolate milk or has any signs or water in it, don't drive the car, have it towed to the dealer instead. This is a worst-case scenario, and hopefully not the issue with your car.

 

Ok, so I'm going to call the dealer in a few minutes once they open, but I have one question... since there is no leaking onto the ground or into any noticeable place in the engine bay, where is all the antifreeze going? I checked the dipstick and oil filler cap, looked pretty normal to me. Checked the areas around the main radiator hose, clean. Checked the overflow radiator hose and the radiator cap... it was a little pink, but not pink enough or crust enough to show I had leaked 3/4 of my antifreeze.

My question is... where the heck is the stuff going!?

 

I am having the same problem. The coolant in the reserve tank seems to be disappearing. No signs of leaks from anywhere. But I noticed there is a little bit of crust on top of the reserve tank around the cap. I took it to the dealer and the system was pressure tested. Everything was normal I was told and sent on my way, but the problem persists. Can anyone help?
