skipping gears wont be good for acceleration, he does it to keep the rpms way down = using less gas, accerleration will be horrible with skipping gears in the forward direction, like going from 1-3

i get avarage 25 with mixed/"spirited" driving.

on a road trip to and from oklahoma (600 miles total) i got 30mpg and the rides too and from i averaged about 90mph. and the rest while I was there was all city.

didnt really wanna go that fast but i had to follow those guys or else i would have gotten lost! I was pleasantly surprised by the milage i got.

Figured i'd post mine...

1st tank: 29mpg
2nd tank: 28mpg
3rd tank: 27mpg
4th tank: 28mpg

I always shift before 4K. Usually even around 3K I shift. I have no need to stomp on it really or rev it high. That's the key to getting good mileage. Just shift lower and don't speed excessively. All of those tanks were about 75% highway driving also.

If I drive an average of about 45 MPH is that considered City or Highway?

city = lots of starts and stops

highway = just continuous driving

which category does the 45 mph fall under?

i just went through my first tank and got about 25 mpg, the tank lasted 321 miles and it took 13 gallons to fill her up. it was nice to only pay just over $40 to fill my tank, not bad at all sompared to what i was driving before this. i was drivin an 88 nissan pickup that got probably about 15 mpg at the most.

so that would be mixed driving. So in your driving cycle of city and highway, you obtain 29MPG.... which is pretty good.

Was that when the light came on? Or if you were around 1/4 indicator? Just wondering.

exactly how much is left in the tank once the light comes on. i must have drove around for probably like 15-20 miles with the light on before i filled up and it still took only 13 gallons, when the capacity of the tank is 14.5. it seems like maybe it comes on with about 2 gallons left maybe?

Right, that's about where it is for me. When I go to fill up I get around 2 gallons left at that mark. Maybe slightly less.

actually the capacity of the tank in not 14.5 its 12.9 or 12.8 12.some-portion-of-a-gallon.

14.5 is xa/xB i think.

i never let my tank get much than 1/4 a tank, btw. when i fill up it only takes around 9 to 10 gallons

14.5 gallons.......

No way its just ~13 gallons. I've put 13 gallons in once and my needle wasn't all the way at the bottom.

aw crap thats right i was confusing the 2!!
the xA/xBs are the one with the weird capacity tank. wtf am i thinking with that anyway, it makes more sense that way....

aw well my milage stuff is still the same cause my "calculations" are independant of how much it holds.

I've tried, and just can't get below 26 mpg under normal driving in my '05 manual Tc.

I've goten as much as 43mpg going 100miles @ 55mph with the A/C off. Tire inflation is usually ~33/30psi

Gas milage only improved over the 1st 4 tanks, but on average I get about 27 City and 33 highway (70-75). I'm pretty evenly mixed so I typically hit 29 to 30mpg.

29 - 30 sounds great, i hope i start getting that many miles per gallon once she's done breakin in. even the 25 mpg i got out of the first tank seemed awesome compared to what i was getting with my last vehicle so i'm already happy.

I've gotten as much as 31 mpg on an I95 trip (set cruise at 80 and AC on). My normal driving average is 24 though.
