Axle, CV Joint, CV Boot Problem Thread
ahh, i see..
try greasing up the spring.. maybe there's too much preload.. lol idk what to tell you man.. because if you've covered all the aspects of loose bolts n nutz, i would just guess the spring popping because it's a common problem for people.
get lithium grease, and squeeze it in between the spring and the top hat (or the contact part for the spring)

My CV boot decided to take a crap today...while installing my new coils I discovered it was torn in half, not the best way to start off my install....
I went to Kragen and got this crappy repair kit, but it didn't work at all...it was more like putting a bandaid on a gushing wound. I don't think its safe at all to drive.

mine broke apart like that when i was working on my coilovers as well. i just popped it back in. surprisingly it doesn't click or anything at all while turning, wouldn't even know it was torn.

Yeah both my sides have been completely torn like that for a few months. I'm sure all the grease has sprayed out by now. The axles split apart when I changed my coilovers since there was no rubber to hold the bearings in. I tried repacking them with axle grease from kragen and sealing it with plastic bags and duct tape, but that only lasted so long until I ripped the bags off and I'm sure all the new grease I put in has sprayed out once again. And I've driven to irvine like that twice now and still use it on the daily. It's weird that they don't click or make any noise whatsoever. I should get to changing them but they seem ok for now. *shrug*
If the axle dies on you www.racepages.com has cheap replacement axles. I've been on the ones from them for about a year.
My passenger cv boot has been torn for months now and I commute about 40miles daily for work. SO far no problems, I did buy a replacement cv boot from Toyota but havent had time to replace it nor do I have the tools to do so.
replacing axles IS a PITA... however, the pass side is LOADS easier than the driver side.. because you gotta worry about that stupid locking pin.. ughhh
if you guys do decide to swap out your axles/fix cvboots/etc., PM me if you need some help.. i'm pretty good at remembering what tools are needed to do that swap.

Bump from the dead. But I was testing something out before posting. For just regular leaks around the actual metal axle, I applied shoe goo, from like skate shops or maybe home depot, around the opening of the cv boot and made sure to get a nice seal around the whole thing. I was generous too to make sure it was thick enough. It has held up for the winter months and 2 days of 1000 mile road trips each day with no grease coming out. Shoe goo is flexible stuff and as long as you make a good ring of it around the axle/boot, it should hold up nicely. For the guys with torn boots, maybe try it, but make sure you still make a ring because whenever I put this stuff on my shoes, the edges like to peel more, but it still holds for a long time.
another BUMP from the dead.. im getting a "whirling" noise from my passenger side front end. the whirling noise accelerates with the speed of the vehicle. im thinking that the inner cv boot is slowly leaking because when i changed my oil about 2 weeks ago, i noticed this:

am i good to just get the boot kit and swap it out? or am i going to need to replace the whole axle since i hear that whirling noise?
