yeah, it just kinda scared me to hear this crazy loud cracking noise for the first couple of mintues of driving...i hope it's not causing and permanent damage to the damper

After spending an hour trying different washers from Home Depot I have found the ultimate answer:

Cloth reinforced, Rubber Tank bolt washers. They are $1.49 for four and they are located by the toilet installation hardware in plumbing.

I put one on each side of the bolt that holds the ETD to the bracket so I no longer need the rubber o-ring or the metal washers. All the noise is basically gone and so is the vibration. This is the way the ETD should have come, It's a great piece now. I highly recommend it.

cool, i'll have to check out home depot tomorrow. i sure hope this solves my cracking noise when the damper is super cold. i'm not sure about getting rid of the washer though, wouldn't these wear out alot quicker without the washer there?
also, how big are they? similar to the size of the oring i imagine
heres something close i found

Since the temp dropped below 30 deg. this weekend, I noticed my damper makes some noise too. It goes away once I get the engine nice and hot. I think it is just the damper and there's nothing you can do about it.

The washers are the sames size as the metal ones that come with the kit. I'm not sure if they would wear out or not, but they are pretty durable so I'd guess not. They really take care of the engine noise and resonance that the ETD transfers to the inside of the car.

hmm, i guess next year i will just remove the damper from the brackets when winter comes around.

good to hear about the washers. driving 75 on the highway sure got a little louder with the damper installed. i just drown it out with louder music, but i'll try this

Mines on the factory setting also. I need to find another wrench big enough so I can adjust it.

so today was nice outside, so i decided that i wanted to put my damper on a lower setting. it was on 14, i wanted to try out somewhere around 12. but before i did that, i check out the a/c line, because i was concerned about since installing the damper brackets had it rubbing. i wrapped some dynamat around the line, thinking that would solve the problem. see pic below

well, today i removed the dynamat after feeling the bottom. from rubbing against the bracket, it made a hole through it in under 3 weeks of driving. also, it was starting to scuff the rubber a/c line and that would have sucked if it made a hole in that...pain in the butt to replace and refill.

i ziptied the a/c line to the engine coolant line and that gave me a little more clearance

so, loosened the nut for the bracket of the a/c line and repositioned so that the line was further away from the bracket. then tightened the nut obviously (10mm nut)

so, after that was all done, i got the clearance i need and i don't have the worry of busting my a/c line from it rubbing on the bracket

then i adjusted the damper to 12 mm. i should have read all the way through the instructions first, because your suppossed to adjust it before you install the damper. it's kinda hard to do with a crescent wrench because of the a/c line filler in the way. i ended up marking up my adjustment nut a little, but i'll sand it out smooth.
i should have waited to do this, because i should have removed it, then gotten the rubber tank bolt washers from home depot, adjusted it to 12mm, then reinstalled and made sure to locktite the threads. i'll do that next week.

12mm is not much different than 14 mm, i do notice a little more vibration at idle and a little more shake at startup, but the tank bolt washers should fix that. it's not bad at all. the car feels a little more stiff and the throttle is a little more responsive.

installed it and managed to keep my strut bar too. I had to upgrade studs on my coilovers in order to fit everything I wanted. I set it on hardest setting and it it amazing. I mean the car is so much more responsive to the throttle. my auto shifts are stronger and faster (at least it feels that way). It feels a lot more stables int he corners and my motor simply does not move at all. I do not hear any sound from it as well.

I do get more vibration from the car but it does not bother me at all. Highly recommend, especially on a turbo car.

stock...very unlikely, coilovers most likely. I just decided to upgrade coilovers bolts since there would be more strain on them then what they were desgned for.

Can someone post a picture of the part your suppose to tighten to make it stiffer? Circle it please... I tried last night but I'm not sure it was the right one. I tightened the small nut thingy before the chrome chamber( on the strut side of the damper)

you need to loosen that bolt, and then twist the cylinder, and it will turn like a screw, or at least thats what i did and its really stiff now? ...correct me if im wrong!

i have mine on the tightest setting, my entire car viberates and my wipers wiggle at idle...i love it

if you dont enjoy a race car type motion at idle ...dont change the setting to much .... otherwise youll just cry about it later
