Let's talk wheel spacers.
So I got some 5mm spacers from Ichiba and was confused when I got them to see that hubcentric rings weren't included. When test fitting I realized why:

5mm is too thin to allow for the incorporation of a ring. Instead the ring of the hub protrudes and the wheel is to use a narrower section of this.
Does this make anyone else nervous? It seems a few people on here say they run 5s so I know its been done, but I'm a bit weary of how much smaller the hub ring is as a result...

I've run as wide as 38mm spacers. With something that wide they come with studs in them, just torque them down the same you would the wheel, and make sure they're hubcentric and you should be fine. I'd check the torque on the spacer periodically just to make sure you're good.
Running a smaller spacer is fine also, as long as you have enough wheel stud length left to grab the proper amount of thread from the lug nut. Make sure your lug nuts seat properly, and torque them properly and again, as long as you grab enough wheel stud, you'll be fine.
I don't really see a difference in strain on a wheel bearing from running a wheel with a super low offset and with using spacers. I've seen wheels with a good two inch thick piece of aluminum on the backside where the holes for the wheel studs are, and I don't see how that is any different than running a wide spacer.
Just my .02

I know, I know, last post was in 2012. So here it goes..
5mm slip on spacer + hub-centric ring that came with my after market wheels
can I run them together? Or do I have to buy a slip on spacer that already has a hub centric ring incorporated like this one.

On SL, most People actually prefer when old threads are bumped, rather than new threads constantly being made.
When running spacers with aftermarket wheels, you need to use a spacer that incorporates a hubcentric ring, and then still use the rings provided with your aftermarket wheels.
However, with 5 mm spacers the spacer is not thick enough to allow for, or require the incorporation of a hubcentric ring.
If you look at the picture in my last post, you will see that when using a 5 mm spacer the ring built into the OEM hub porch roots of enough so that spacer does not have to include one. However just to be clear you still must use the hubcentric rings that is included with your aftermarket wheels.
