Default Quality LEDS for License Plate?

I bought a cheap pair off ebay for something like 6 bucks and now they are intermittently failing (one of them turns on and off intermittently).

Can you someone recommend a pair of "high quality" replacements that are bright white (I don't like the blue tint) Please?

6000K is a tad bit more blue than 5000K?

I own the bulbs that ColdAsIce linked. They are phenomenal. Very bright and perfect for our application since they shine directly down at a right angle.

I have the 5000k version and they look very clean and mimic the LEDS used by Lexus and BMW for their license plate lights...except way brighter.

Hold off and wait for the 5000k version to come back in stock...you'll look less douchebaggy than with 6000k.

Hey guys need some help.

Went to install the flank leds from VLED and they don't fit. The body of the led is too wide to fit into the socket slots. As a result it hits the opposite side of the reflector when I go to plug the socket back into the hole.

Tried forcing but there is just no room. The LED is flat against the reflector and will not allow me to seat the socket.

Has anyone else run into this? Is this just a '13 model year problem?

Not a single problem on my end from these bulbs. The fit is perfect with a tiny amount of room to spare. I wouldn't imagine the '13 license plate light fixtures are any different than the '11.

Steve. I think I figured it out. Don't know why but take a look at the flank bulbs that are rated 4. They are wider where the led is mounted. The flank bulbs rated 5 are the same width as the actual pos/neg leads. That IS the problem. I don't know why the lower rated bulbs would have to be wider but that extra width is what is stopping the bulbs from being fully seated in the socket!

Ahh, I see exactly what you are talking about. Did you just decide to go with the 4 rating bulbs because the 5000k was sold out for the 5 rating bulbs?

Glad we have the answer!

Yep. Went with the lower power bulb since the higher 5K was sold out. Have to call VLEDs today

ColdAsIce linked the 6000k version in post #3

I'll link the 5000k for you. It appears to be back in stock.

Superbrightled.com has a nice product. 194 5smd bulb works great. And if they fail within two years, you can return them. I haven't had to return but once, and it was some LED running lights, not bulbs. but when I did, it was a very quick transaction.

Just got my led's in the mail. The hardest part of the install was getting the old bulbs out of the socket lol. Just used a pair of pliers and gently pulled on the bulb. Cant wait to see what they will look like at night.
