Default Scraped underside of bumper..

Hi guys, new here, I have. 2015 Scion tC I just bought, with 17k miles. I’m super excited to join this group, here’s my question, I was in Los Angeles last night coming out a a parking lot and I heard the dreadful scraping of the bumper.
When I got home I inspected it and it’s scraped all along the underside. You can’t see it unless you’re down there looking, how can I fix the paint, just so it stays sealed, black bumper is showing through the scrapes.
I read you can file the scrapes and just use the factory Toyota touch up paint, that’s kind of what I’m leaning towards.

Also are there any other components under there I could have damaged? Like frame, oil pan? I looked my best but didn’t see any scrapes on those parts.

Thanks guys!

Hello Warrensgarden! Welcome to SL!

If you don't see any Frame damage, Oil Pan damage like leaks, any other obvious damage, you are probably OK w/o having to take it to a Shop.
Yes, I think you can just file off and smooth the scrapes and use a little Toyota or equivalent touch up paint.

The oil pan is tucked up nice much higher than the bumper. Then as an additional barrier the subframe can act as protection as well.
You'd need to drive over a really odd shaped object at just the right angle to damage any of the components down there. You can scrape the bumper all day and be just fine

A touch up pen is what I use for blemishes. I just grabbed on off Amazon that matched the factory color code (look for this near the VIN sticker on you B-pillar or Google it, it's usually a 3-digit alphanumeric code).

Thank you so much! I’m looking to sand down the rougher areas I scraped. What’s a good way to make this smooth and then hit it with some touch up paint? I already purchased the paint!

You can carefully smooth the ridges of the scrape(s) with a flat file or sanding block. Try to avoid scratching the clear coat around the ridges. You can use a paint pen or an artist's brush to touch-up the ridges you smoothed. The trick is minimize sanding so that the narrow pen tip or artist's brush are sufficient to cover what's hopefully very thin lines of sanded area. Try to spread the paint as evenly as possible and only on the sanded area. Try to avoiding painting over anything that wasn't leveled with your file or sanding block.

That's about all you can do short of sanding, masking and spray painting which is typically time consuming and expensive.
