2012 Scion tC won't Crank..
Hi all,
My water pump went out and as I was getting to it, I didn't disconnect the battery. Well I was a little shocked when the hot wire on the alternator grounded out. I then disconnected the battery and continued. Skip forward to starting the car....I got lights etc but the car won't crank. I thought it might be the key
but when I had someone come out to program me a new one, they didn't get any response from the computer. I checked with my own reader and it wasn't getting any information from the computer. It seems that I need a new computer but before I pay for one I wanted to see if anyone here had seen the same problem.
Thanks a million.

I tested all the fuses and they're looking good. I disconnected the wire going to the starter, put the key on run and jumped the starter from the battery..... it started. So there's something between the switch and the starter that's causing the problem. I would assume if the ECU was bad, it wouldn't have run.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Repeat same continuity with all wire-sections between battery and starter.
Put test-leads on each end of wire. Readout on multimeter will show if wire is good or bad.
There's a wire somewhere in circuit that got fried and is no longer conducting electricity.

Well, after digging on the Internet, I concluded that it had to be my fusible link....What the he'll is that you ask? Well I'm not sure why it's needed but it's like a fuse box with no fuses. It's a chain of circuits that can blow. It's in the fuse box under the hood and you can't really tell it's no good until you pull it. unfortunately pulling it is not for the faint of heart. You basically have to disassemble your fuse box. The FL is not available at AutoZone or O' Reilly. I went straight to Toyota for the part. $40. You can also get it on Amazon. Here are some pictures.
