My tC2 Thread
Fixed the door rattle on this car (hopefully not just a temp fix), so now i can enjoy the loud bass of the sound system. Even though its stock, it is still amazing. You know the audio is working right when your chest reverberates with all the beats lol.
Before i couldn't set my volume up past 39 because of the bad rattling, but now I set it to 45 and its spot on. I bet i can set it even higher but that would be borderline obnoxious.

post #58 on this thread (page 3) shows what you have to do. As shifty as it is, it solves the issue well. or at least greatly improves the situation.

make sure you read how to remove the panel. if you do it from the front, by the door handle, you will likely break it. start prying it only from the back end. It will need a small thin screwdriver or something similar to get under it and pry it off. and a little force, but in a controlled manner.
Or instead of paper, you can use foam (there is a similar stickied thread on using foam. check that interior subforum)
If you decide to do this just be careful =P

The TWM bushing kit and the Supertek quickshifter kit arrived today. I couldn't wait for the weekend (I was planning on working on my car then), so I tried to install them today. Took a while to figure out where the shifter cable bracket was and how to remove that U clip, but once everything was figured out, it was easy. The U clip is not the beast everyone is making it out to be. You just have to apply the screwdriver at a certain point on the U clip bent lip to get it to move upwards and out. However it took me a few minutes to figure it out. it was quite frustrating prior to that haha!
Test drove the car after the install, and I am a bit impressed. I do have to get used to it though to get more out of it. Maybe it will even settle in better after a few days of driving, and will feel better.
Overall the shifting is faster due to shorter distance traveled between gears. 1st to 2nd though is still quite wide...I wonder if I will want to get the TWM short shifter still...but maybe not, we'll see.
Can't wait to FINALLY install those TRD sway bars this Saturday. They've been lying around in my basement for too long.

The sway bars are in! Took way longer that I expected because it was very cold today, and it even started to snow towards the end so I didn't get to test the car much. I drove around slowly after the install. couldn't really do much lol. I'm going to try out some exit ramps and such once all the snow melts and we get dry conditions here again.

But I'll tell you whats worth while getting right now: a short shifter. either the TRD style quickshifter or the TWM short shifter. either way you'll want the TWM cable and base bushings to complement whichever shifter route you go. It really makes driving a lot more fun. It's simply getting through the gears faster. I didn't think I needed it or wanted it. Now, I think I'm going to install short shifters on any car I get in the future haha! especially older imports, but even brand new cars (w/e replaces my tC eventually as my daily driver. hopefully an Evo X or something...)

I got the TRD quickshifter knockoff from Supertek. So you can just treat it like a TRD because its identical, except theirs isn't painted red lol. I also got the TWM cable and base bushings. Those also help shifter feel. you'll want those regardless of whether you go the TWM SS route or the TRD quickshifter route. I highly recommend them.
Evos are my favorite car. STIs are likely slightly better all-round performance sedans, but it's just something about the evo's styling that makes me like them more. I'd want an Evo X for daily driving and an Evo IX or VIII as a track car. VIII and IX are the best looking imo, but I'd want something new and slightly more reliable for daily purposes.

Yes I definitely do, as price was a big influence in my decision. If you want performance and quality above all else, and if your budget isn't tight, then go all out and get the TWM short shifter, bushing kit and the weighted shift ****. That is the absolute best you're going to get. The TWM option will cost you somewhere around $300+ and over $400 with the weighted shift ****.
The aftermarket quickshifter option will cost you around $70 shipped and those TWM bushings are $80 shipped so the cheaper option is somewhere around $150 to have a good short shifting setup. add a simple JDM weighted brass **** (which i think you already have?) and your total is around $200 for the SS setup.
I haven't decided on which weighted shift **** I want yet. I might give flossy a try..
btw, to clear something up: I use the term "quickshifter" to describe the setup that relocates your shifter cables. TRD and Supertek does this. I use the term "short shifter" to desribe the setup that replaces the actual shifter rod. in the end the effect of getting shorter throws/shorter shifting is similar, and yet probably not the same. the TWM relocates the actual shifter rod position a bit forwards. The TRD/Supertek one keeps the same shifter rod position, but once you start to shift, you'll definitely see that the travel is greatly reduced. The TWM reduces the travel too.
So essentially they are both short throw shifter setups that use different methods.

OK cool beans thanks for the info. I'll probably go the cheap route as a college student money I'd pretty tight lol. Ya I do have a PWJDM weighted **** I picked it out as a Christmas gift so I'm happy with it I've heard there are heavier ***** but the weight of mine is still bbetter than factory. I personaly would love a shift kit that actually lowered the height of the shifter itself

O and another thing. This might just be me, but I find that once you get any short shifting setup, it actually helps with the rev hang that happens in the lower gears. I'm not 100% on this yet since it's only been a few days of me driving it, but it almost seems like the faster shift helps me deal with the rev hang when going from 1st to 2nd and then from 2nd to 3rd.
You see in stock shifting, by the time you shifted your gear, the rev hang was happening and you had to wait a few fractions of a second to engage the clutch or w/e. but now I find that i can shift quick enough to actually engage the clutch while the rev hang process is starting to occur (or is occuring) so it kind of helps with the situation. you don't get the annoying over-rev and then the drop. It's hard to describe, but you'll see what I mean once you do it. You do have to get used to it though, so give yourself some time to "re-learn" your shifting after the install. its a bit different from stock haha.

Ya ik what you mean I have heard of those throttle controlers that reduces the rev increase between the low gears. But I haven't researched it yet. Does the of brand shifter reduce the throws by 30% like the TWM shifter claims

The throttle controller alleviates the problem entirely and does so electronically (possibly by communicating with the ECU? idk.) That's a surefire fix for the problem, but I don't feel like messing with the signals in my car, so I'm not getting one. its not a huge issue for me since when you actually are in a race situation, there is no rev hang in the higher rpms where you are shifting.
Not only that, but I don't race my car haha! It's enough to take your rpms close to redline in a few gears to realize that the rev hang is non existent there. I have barely ever gone close to the redline. probably not good if you do it regularly
Mine's not going to be race/performance car by any means. I want to use it as a regular car, but one that I enjoy driving.

I come from a Honda back ground it took alot of driving my Tc before I could get Use to not reving it to 8000k Like you would in a honda becausr of the vtec Lol but I def found that the sweet spot in my Tc is 2-5k I love the feeling of the torque even though it's not a V8 it's a hell of alot more than a 1.6 liter honda. I have red lined my engine and it really doesn't make much power past 6k so there is no point in redlining it IMO.
