Default Those Pesky Windshield Cracks..

Happy Holidays my Toaster owning brethren!!! Once again, I call upon thee for thy wisdom...this time for windshields... This morning, some Jacka$$ in front of me driving a gravel truck was driving well above the speed limit and I heard a thumpety-thump hit my little toaster (my '06xA). I then discover after parking that my poor little teenager has a nice vertical crack right above the driver's side wiper...
I passed my driver's license test exactly 31 years and 5 days ago... (December 7, 1989, my 16 year old self thought it knew it all!!! pppffffttttt!!!!)I know...I know...most of you weren't even born yet. And this is the first time I might actually have to use my insurance for something other than showing proof to the dmv and the highway patrol. I am forced to carry full coverage since I'm still paying for it...until April...praise the Scion gods... It will be paid off!!!) so...I am baffled... So, my Brethren, I am imploring upon you for any insight you can share with me about this...I have Comprehensive and Collision, both each have a $500 deductible. This crap might as well be written in Gibberish, or even in Klingon, cuz it’s all nonsense to me (Klingon isn’t nonsense of course, but that discussion is for another time and place …)

1. Should I (or do I need to) file a claim with my insurance? While I still have to pay for full coverage? I might as well use it?
Cuz I plan to downgrade my policy to the bare minimums after the pink slip no longer lists a lien holder. Full coverage on a 15 year old car with almost 200,000 miles seems a little excessive, to me anyway.
2. Is this covered? Is the deductible gonna kill me? Am I better off not filing a claim?
3. Is Safelite any good? I heard they're crap! Up here in the 805, our options are limited.
4. Or should i just cover it with Loctite and pray to the windshield gods it doesn't get worse? For now, it is ANNOYING the HELL OUTTA ME!!! I don't need the added expense right now! And I fear the crack will expand and explode some night while I'm driving home from work at 1130 at night on a two lane road on a night it's so foggy I can't see anyway.

Thanks for another year!!! ---ChefIceQueen

Have you considered one of these?

Here's a DIY application video.

Good luck with the fix.

Check to see if you have glass coverage listed in your policy. If you do you may find that glass is either fully covered or you may have something like a $50 deductible for it, which is the case with the policy I have with Progressive.

So I have a messed up windshield it’s not cracked or anything yet but it’s scratched and everything, I talked to Safelite for my 2005 Scion xA and I think they quoted less then $300 no insurance involvement and they come to you.

My advice because they’ve fixed my mom's car for $600 someone smashed her driver side window for some stuff in her Kia, and that’s a way more intensive fix then a windshield so I recommend them
