Default 04 xB Timing Chain Jumped

Ok guys,

I'm fixing this car for a friend and it turns out the Scion's timing chain jumped. I've been looking online and i've read how it says that the engine is an interference engine so I wanted to know what should I do? I haven't worked on Toyotas in years and wanted to know if anyone has experienced a timing chain jump on their 1NZFE engine's xB? I'm new here so any help I would appreciate it. I have looked on the Toyota manuals online but nothing pertaining to this type of event. I plan on correcting the old timing chain and putting it to time and then doing a cylinder leak down test to see if the valves are bent but other then that I'm lost.

Any help guys?

you have about 15 degrees of room. you will have to replaced the chain and tentionor with a new set. the way i chech is if it starts at full throttle then your good. if it does start at oll youve bent a valve or many.

Hey guys just a quick follow up. I appreciate the ones who replied and the great news is I replaced the 2 cam sprockets and all the guides, chain, and tensioner. Put everything together and the engine turned on great and it runs great but I unfortunately damaged the crank seal when I installed it (I did put a new one on came in the kit) and I'm just waiting to pickup up the new one from Toyota tomorrow. It was a pain but it turned out better then I thought it would. Also I have no idea why the timing chain jumped or what caused it, my guess is the tensioner gave out but when I checked it, it wasn't messed up but its been a long time since I've worked on Toyotas so no idea. Don't take my word on this though if this happens to someone just pray you are within the 15 degrees like creamyxb2 said. The engines are cheap but I won't be needing one. I just hope this stays on here so if anyones chain jumps a tooth or two they can have this for reference. I used all the online manuals for taking it off and on but if anyone want's any help in the future you can PM . Thanks again guys!
